Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Jean what are the preferences here on the blue wheatons? meaning muff/beard color and more or less ticking/sriping?

as you know I'm new at this

thanks
beards and muffs should be turning blue by around 20 weeks. The preference is for them to be blue by the time they are fully mature. Less ticking in the hackles it is not desireable.

what can you usually sell an ameraucana roo for?

Anything I can get for them

most of the time I just give them away so I don't have to feed them anymore.

Quote: I have found that I usually get several people that want them when I put them on CL. The sooner I can get them gone the better off I am. My first year with chickens just killed my pocket. Feeding the roos till they are old enough to eat was not worth it and after all that $5 was the BEST I could get.... not worth it.

Most people around here can't have roos so that would not work. I do try that with some, like my Wheatens I will sell them in pair or trios. But they take longer to sell that way. I have a trio of Black Ams up for sale and no nibble for weeks. Now if I put the hens up they would be gone in days.

If they don't want the rooster, I tell them that's fine, the price is still the same. The rooster was free anyway!!!

Quote: Yeah, I do that too. I sometime just offer a roo for free IF NEEDED, sometimes they bite, but not often. My Am trio, I really don't want that roo to be eaten so I will only sell them as a trio. I am going to get some chicks from Smith in the Spring
