You definitely don’t need it with that fly though. It’s got deer hair and snowshoe rabbit fur. Practically impossible to sink. If you do use floating you can pop it and drag it under though.

I never keep anything other than trout, and that’s mostly because our trout stream is stocked daily and you buy a daily permit... but we do like trout also... but I’m too lazy to clean fish most times.

Is that your pond? Looks good to me! The muck here drives me nuts.
Although I don’t use weed guards. I don’t mind pulling a few weeds off a fly every now and then. I just can’t get past the idea of weed guards. They’re designed to prevent hooking. Lol

I’ll keep a fish if it’s hooked bad and bleeding but that’s pretty rare. It’s better to leave the fly then hurt em getting it out.

Yeah, my dad had that dug just before I was born... I think... kinda forgetting the year at that moment.

It has some nice largemouth and bluegill... but that “water shield” lily stuff is a royal pain

I do like bluegills when fried. I had bass once but I didn’t like it at all.
