American Gamefowl

For 1000 chickens or ostriches ... or both?
Neither you can rent one of these spreaders if you have the right connections. Getting an even distribution is key to a healthy lawn.

I hope this isn't too out of place, but I wonder about folks' maintenance feed for games? There are tons of feed discussions on BYC, but I am not sure if they hit our niche. Anyway, I am semi-retired and hope to raise gamefowl again. Since I will have few at first, here is a feed mix I could keep quantities small:

3 parts Southern States 9.5% 5 Grain: 28.5
1 part Nutrena FF, 18
.5 part Diamond 32% dogfood, 16

= 13.8%

Maybe others can share and say why.

I feed southern states rooster booster 20% pellets mixed with rooster booster 5 grain scratch. That’s it. Lighter on the scratch in summer and heavier in winter.
It’s all called Flock Balancer now and doesn’t come in the fancy red bags anymore because the animal rights nut jobs complained since it was geared toward gamefowl.

There's no magical feed every individual bird will take said feed and process it a little or a lot different.

SS flock balancer, whole corn, whole oats.

Look what I'm supposed to make today.. . View attachment 1978141chicken on a piece of bread. :lau
I'm cracking up.:gig:gig
He’s actually had chicken and waffles since then and it came with waffles and proper chicken so I’m guessing somebody sh*t the bed on that one.

I like that pellet, have used it in the past! I could get it here but am hung up on whether it would be fresh. The SS here doesn't sell much of it. Do you know if there is a way on the bag to tell the date? Or if calling someone can tell you this?

I have known folks who fed that same and their fowl looked and did fantastic. Many soaked the grains overnight. Do you feed your oats dry and do they eat them good that way? I know they will eat some but how much? Of course if you are not overfeeding, they will eat everything!

I should have said I have also always fed sour oats. In summer, 1 part wet oats and 2 parts dry base mix. In winter, 1 part sour oats to 3 parts dry base.
