American serama thread!

I would like to encourage more people to post photos of their Silkied Serama... lets have a 'silkied fest'.

Cool. I think Silkieds deserve their own thread.

Just a suggestion-Put marbles or small rocks in the water dish to keep them from drowning themselves when they are newly hatched.

I haven't been posting much, but lurking. I love all the pictures of the beautiful birds. So far none of my serama eggs have hatched. I've done the "eggtopsy" thing and they are not fertile. I have 4 pair, but I think I am going to pick the best roo and hen and put them together and only try to hatch from them. I think fertility and egg production will increase as the days get longer. I've got lights and little warmers in the pens for them now. It has been very cold here lately with wind chills well below 0.

All of my seramas are pretty wild. They were never handled as chicks. I want to be sure I only hatch what I can handle easily, so that is one of the reasons I want to limit my hatches to just one pair... plus try to get the best chicks I can. I'm sure once they start to lay I'll have more than I know what to do with!

Just wanted to share my new fuzzy butts that hatched in the last two days... (the little yellow one next to the water dish is a bantam EE)
