American serama thread!

Here is a little guy that I recently got back from a boy that needed a couple of chicks to help raise a lone call duckling.
Little cockeral is almost 3 months old. His father is a frizzled chocolate carrier from Juliette.
Picture is a bit fuzzy but the lacing comes thru just fine.

Well isn't he a cutie! Can't wait to see how the lacing will finish down the road....ruthless~~~~~does he quack now? I hope them ducks didn't turn HIM into one... ha ha ha ha ha

I don't know what color to call this guy. It's kind of like butternut squash. Here are some more pictures of him.

Love his color! I noticed you have sqare perches... I started a thread on round or square perches and is it good for their feet - since perches will be going off topic- your welcome to send private message re; square perch

dont understand why the little boys have to try to strut their stuff on a public forum .

I love seeing all the pictures of ALL the colors of ALL the types of SERAMA
People can breed their birds for whatever they want color, type, egg size, etc.
If I want to breed for the greenest legs and the longest backand the bluest eyes, then I can.

=-}

Chickenlover<3, here are some of my TRADITIONAL SERAMA boyz and girlz, these are all the offsprings from the 5 birds I started out with (cost me less then 400$).....I breed my bird to suit my taste cuz in the end I am the one who have to look at them every day.

Love the color on that second roo - is it chocolate? I don't know much about poultry colors/breeding yet. It took enough time to get the rabbit colors down LOL

And that last hen is absolutely gorgeous!

Love that full tail.

Stupid question- couldnt find any picts on line of what scissor wing looks like - but that it is a disqualification. Does anyone have picts (that they dare to post) ;-}

Mauigirl: See how the secondary wing feathers come out at an angle from behind the primary wing feathers on the bird above? This is scissor wing.

See how the bird below has his secondary feathers behind the primaries, he is not showing scissor wing.

Scissor wing is being considered a "defect" I believe, with points taken off, but not a "disqualification" by my understanding.....at least for the American Serama. The proposed standard for a Traditional Serama is a bit harsher in that category, with the judges option to disqualify, based on severity.

The birds pictured are not mine by the way, I copied them off the SCNA site.

Edited to add... there are varying degrees of scissor wing, some being only slight. It may have to do with muscle control, I'm not really sure on that one.
