American serama thread!

Nurseshelly-loved the baby bjorn idea.

I went to the serama breeder in Douglas today and it was really fun. Got some good ideas about feeder out of milk jugs and some pen ideas. My husband is actually outside making a grow out pen from her ideas. It not because he loves me...its because he is sick of the house smelling like chicken from the brooder box in the laundry room!!

I'm jealous, but the dog crate works really well so can't complain too much.

Well the grow pen is done and of course my husband has to do everything bigger and better. The thing is huge, 4x6. It will probabley take at least 3 if not more people to move it out of my carport. He thought that I could just put it in my chicken coop. Maybe if the coop was a little bigger! (next project) I am going to put it in the back yard, that way I can check on them more. My coop is a bit away from my house.

I ordered 12 eggs from ZooMumzy. She sent 16. I have my suspicions that she lost money on the transaction. I candled my 12 (16) eggs yesterday (1 week into incubating) and 11 were fertile and progressing as desired. I live in MI. I want more of her eggs. I have hatched shipped eggs many, many, many, times in the past - mostly with less exciting results.

Yay! She is sending me eggs soon, if they can make it to Michigan
They can make it to Ohio! Sending good egg laying vibes to
her little hens as I type.

Got 24...19 made it to lock down and 14 hatched. That is an AWESOME hatch rate.

ETA: Did I mention that I had a 4 hour power failure during incubation, day 12. Talk about freaking out !

My goal is not to make money with my Seramas, just to spread them around the country

A Serama in every home would be nice LOL Actually, my ultimate goal - other than pursuing my passion and raising Seramas - was to make sure that people experienced great hatch rates with shipped eggs since I, too, had less than desired results last winter. For the amount of money I wasted on eggs I could have bought at least 6 pairs of top quality Seramas! I didn't want others to have the same fate so I am very thrilled that everyone who has received my eggs is happy

I do my best. I'm glad you all love your chicks too!

To the people in Ohio and Michigan, you are in my part of the country - I grew up near Toledo

Thank you Sue, very much. Btw, your godson is sitting on my lap right now and is going to be on the cover of a calendar I'm making of my Seramas and chicks hatched by people.
