American serama thread!

Hey Ken, When you want to sell this guy, let me know. He is still my favorite. I love the look and the proud stance/pose. He is perfect to me!

I think any one of my chickens would love to jump in a box and tell me to send them your way .. Like I said before your coop is like a chicken castle and its one of the nicest coop I have seen just beautiful and huge ... I have a lot of them hatching right now even thought I gave away / sold to a few locals and friends 100 or so last week lol ...

No matter what kind of seramas , Type over everything ... This little guy was bred by Jacob seem he is learning very quickly ... Even in frizzle I see so many lack the legs and can't stand tall and proud. But Jacob fix that in his line . He gave this boy to me which I donated to a 4-Her program so we are very happy with that .

This is " Type " ....
this is STUNNING type! WOW! that is one gorgeous bird.

I don't even like that cocao (patton or pop or what ever the chocolate color is being called) but the pattern on the breast, the type and the balance of feather textures and lights and darks on this bird is incredible . A real beauty

Here are some more pictures of Charles. He gets all excited when I aproach the cage and he spent the entiire time trying to escape and get away from me. When he is relaxed, his head comes back, his breast comes out, and his tail looks a little more balanced, but still a bit stretched out.

Also, let's test how much i know: Feel free to critiue my critique. I will also add that he was purchased as an American Serama and would be shown as an American. If that helps.

I'm thinking he could be a bit shorter in the back and saddle area to pull his type and posture together. His breast is a bit long and this combines with the longer back and causes him to reach a bit with his posture. all in all he needs to be a bit more compact instead of long and lanky.

Certainly not a show winner, but I love him anway. Since I couldn't afford the $150+ that others were asking in my area, I purchased the best I could afford, which was Charles and his two ladies. I figure these will be good to get started with and to learn a bit about the genetics and breeding of Seramas. I purchased them at a poultry swap and I really love them.

I think what you are seeing as a long breast is a function of the long back and causing his reaching posture. your assessment seems accurate and he would probably not go into a breeding pen if you are concerned with showing. we are in the same boat . I learned about them got them and now am trying to upgrade with out too much expense. In the process i learned about care and housing and predators"( and breeding and rearing young . I am hoping that one of my hens is a good type and will produce better. More so, I am hoping the rooster boy is better than his dad so then I can find his dad a good pet home or just keep him as a pet myself I could see having 2 roos in the house but not more.

To brahma breeder. Breed for type first and color second. In table top judging color does not matter. So take your typey birds and breed to each other. Once you get type under control then go for color.

Thank you rach. Yeah I was thinking I would have to just forget about color for a while until I get type under control. You'd think I know what table top judging is but I don't. What is it?
