American serama thread!

I need some good thoughts for Charles. I took him to the vet today and he is on antibiotics. H e is fluffed up and not doing well at all, even with the meds.

Saying a prayer for him. I have my favorite Polish going through the same thing. Brought her in tonight, not really expecting her to make it 'till morning.

Good to hear, BantyChickenLuv, Hopefully it'll go well for mine when my bantams arrive from Ideal :)

Thanks froggiesheins, I can't believe so much cuteness can be in one thing! Puts the big chicks to shame!!

hee hee, Scifisarah, that's so funny. Never thought I'd have chickens in the house either! I am afraid I don't know the answer to your question, but I did find a good youtube video on how to make diapers, which, since it's kind of easy, might be worth it for you to make one now and upgrade it later? I'll add the link when I find it :p

Here is my little poopsie, so quiet! So calm! Nothing like my leghorn chicks, and seems to be fine with the mirror and fuzzy I gave it. I really hope it's a boy though!!

Sory, not a great picture ...

Heck its a GREAT picture! :love :jumpy
P.S. I love yer name: poopsie.......:lau

Oh poor Charles, I hope he feels better really soon and that the antibiotics help!

Aw, thanks froggiesheins, he's a sweetie, but none of the other chicks want to switch boxes to join him (they desperately try to jump out) and my poor serama chick feels so dejected it was so sad! So I have to hold him a lot :( But good news is that my bantams are coming in from Ideal, probably Thursday, and my little one will have time to get a day older, and will join that lot when they get here!

Only worry I have is if the bantams come with some kind of illness, that'd be bad,

I'm on day 7 of incubation and so I took out the eggs that weren't developing or had blood rings. So out of 24, I have 13 still inside the incubator but am unsure of 3 of those. They were all clear except about 3 which started and died by probably day 4.

So I hope at least those 10 that look good so far, will make it and with a little luck, the other 3 are still good. It's hard to tell, but one has something that looks like it's very loose in there (usually means dead floating thing, or I don't see much and looks clear. But those are also very thick shells, so I can't tell for certain, so I'm keeping them in the incubator :) I'd still consider 10 / 24 pretty ok for shipped serama eggs though :)

My poor lone Serama chick sits all the time looking in the mirror like Harry Potter looking into the Mirror of Erised. Hence, if he turns out to be a he, he has a name, LOL :D Harry Potter!

Poor angel is sleeping right now

He really needs Ron and Hermione!

Question! I have a silkie hen sitting on serama eggs. They are due next thursday! Getting excited. A lady told me that I would need to take them from the hen since they are so small and since its getting cool.

Is this true? Or would you guys just bring the hen and chicks indoors?

My first serama, with some ducklings that hatched today. Love the little thing.

I lost one chick a few hours after it hatched, and have another white and a blue one I just put in the brooder. One egg left to hatch it looks like.

Oh, congratulations! So adorable!

Tripp16, aren't Silkies also bantams? I guess there is a risk letting a hen raise the chicks, I really don't know, but I understand Silkies are one of the best mothers??

Oh, that at least sounds like progress? Still praying for Charles! Poor sweetie!

I just got a second notice from Ideal that my chicks are being shipped, but the date was today's date. So I looked at yesterday's notification, and saw it had today's date as well, though it said "Your poultry has been shipped" and now it looks like my poor Serama chick will be alone yet another day, poor sweetie

Yes they are great mothers but she said since seramas are so small they are very fragile. I guess we will just wait and see.
