American serama thread!

Here is the first chick. He got moved to the brooder so I didn't have to worry about him picking on the other one. I have pedigree baskets in my hatcher and this little thing is an escape artist. He some how got out of one of the baskets into "general population" lol. These 2 were the only eggs I had in the hatcher, and both are from the same pair so it doesn't matter this time. I may need to build higher fences haha. After they hatch I put them in the bigger portion if they are from the same pair to keep them from picking on the chicks that are in the process of hatching, I just didn't want him getting back in with the hatching chick.

If I weren't going with a Christmas theme I would name him Houdini... still may end up changing it later.

The other chick is out now, and resting. I had to help because the egg was stuck to him so he couldn't kick out... wet around the edges a little and it loosened off his down. He is resting now, I'll take pictures when he starts to move around.

Anyone have any Christmas name suggestions for male and female?
The daddy to these 2 was born on the 4th of July with 4 others and is named Blaster... it helps me remember who are from the same hatch and what month they were born.

What a sweetie.
Name suggestion: Holly and Berry (Barry)

I'm gonna copycat the Christmas name idea, so thanks Pinx! Hopefully I'll have enough hatch to use all of those names. I incubated at lower temps (99-100) the whole time in fear of a temp spike and cooking them. Soo... I'm sadly anticipating having to wait the whole 21 days:(
I am having a terrible time getting the humidity up though. Can't get it above 62, so I'm just praying it won't affect the hatch too much. The next 3 days just might kill me!!!

My incubator arrived yesterday! OOOH I'm so excited, I have to resist the urge to throw eggs in THIS SECOND. Gotta set up and make sure everything is running at temp and whatnot before jumpin' in to my first hatch. If I get any this holiday season, I plan to name them after Santa's reindeer! So there's an idea for you christmas name seekers!

Alright so I made one of those cookie tin heaters that we were talking about on here a while back so I could move my seramas outside. I want to see how everything goes so I can have the babies inside when I start hatching. I was wondering if anyone has an outdoor serama flock, and if they can be combined with any other birds? My big chickens beat up on my roo instantly , making his comb bleed within 5 seconds, when I took them outside to see if they could get along (specifically the big BLRW and Black Jersey Giant). I have been thinking about some bantam cochins for them to be friends with and help keep warm, but I don't have any experience with any other bantam breeds so I'm really not sure of the size and if they are compatible. Help?

Well I bowled like crud and the wedding was almost uneventful. If it wasn't already redneck enough... it just got worse when the bride told someone else in reference to their 2 year old daughter "I've seen cuter". Oh my, did that not go over well. And... the mothers of the bride and groom do not get along and had words tonight. I wouldn't have attended but I can't make an excuse when I was there for 4 hours before the wedding. The bride and groom met 2 weeks ago, I just hope they know what they are getting into and it all works out. I feel like I was in a movie lol.

Anyway, my second chick hasn't hatched yet... it is still zipping. Should be anytime though, so I guess I have to wait a little longer for pictures.

Edited to add: I thought I would clarify... A shotgun wedding around here could also mean a quick and usually not very planned wedding. Some times my slang gets the best of me and I forget that what I say has other meanings elsewhere lol. No one was forced to marry (That I know of lol).

WELL>>>>> glad you had an "interesting" evening.......You probably got gutter balls cuz you were busy thinking about where they had that shotgun! :lau :lau

IN REFERENCE to your little Christmas BEBEs [that picture is too fricking cute by the way] It looks like he is saluting the flag saying: "I is proud to be an American Serama"!

HOLLY is so perfect a name for christmas..LOL

Gosh, I can't remember where I put my camera! But my black chick isn't all black! He seems to have some golden/copper color on his hackles! I don't know how it'll turn out, but I can't lie, I'm really happy he'll have a bit more going on than solid black, LOL. he also seems to have a puff o white under his chin ;) (I know chickens don't have chins!!!!)

He and egghead are the most friendly, which I can't figure out because Harriet practically lived on me when she was a loner chick, and the lightest of my trio is the biggest, should be brave! But they're ok, once you get 'em out of the cage

They change so much as they are growing up. I had a chick born on Halloween (Boo) who was all yellow with a chipmunk strip going down her back. As she started feathering out the color was changing to a speckled browm. The one day I walked in and I didn't even recognize her she had literally changed colors overnight.
