American serama thread!

Moved my Serama pair with the two silkies inside to their new "coop", which is actually the bottom level of my rabbit tower. They spent a good 4 hours digging and dusting and having a grand ole time with the fresh delicious shavings.
I was wondering, do any of you keep your serama with silkie chickens?

So I finally convinced my husband and tomorrow I am getting a GOSLING!!! I am so freaking excited I can't hardly stand it!
Do any of you have other house birds with your house serama? I'm wondering if my Toulouse will get along with my serama. I know they have different needs, but they will be living in the same room and have the same house free ranging time.
Oh my gosh, a house goose? That'd be pretty amazing! LOL
Ihad a problem with fungus knats in my tomatoes and watermelons...I lost my first watermelon plant that had my fist ever tiny watermelon on it... Also lost my sun sugar cherry tomato plant

does DE work in the soil of the plants to kill those discussing bugs?
I bet it'd help a lot. I put it on my strawberries last week (sprinkled right on top, on leaves and soil) and the slugs and earwigs are gone!
Just bought me two SQ Seramas today, a cockerel and a pullet. I think the $70 was well spent, I just love the little roo! I also got to talk to some breeders and learn some good tips about raising Seramas.
He's gorgeous! I love his coloring!
Here is my crooked back baby. she is doing great and getting harder to catch.

And this one I am pretty sure is a male

Oh, they're so cute! Yah, that looks like a boy!
You can sprinkle it on the whole plant besides the soil. It will not harm the plant or fruits
I just sprinkled it in my run tonight, hopefully roaches will 1. go away, or population stays down and 2. be out and ready to eat in the morning, LOL (yuck!)

I've got a question for you all???

My dear Hermione has managed to lose her eggs. I don't know where they are, I assume hiding in the bedding or something? She does have eggs under her, but they're not the ones with an H written on them, and I think that the girls are laying in there all the time and causing trouble!

So I'm wondering if I should put 6 incubator eggs under her at lockdown so she can actually hatch them? Or is the risk of her losing them again too great? I was kind of hoping that she could raise them, thought it'd be cute? I think the other girls, and Sirius would be good to the chicks, but they're clumsy!

Anyone have experience to share?

Don't know much about broody hens, but yesterday I really saw the traits demonstrated in a good Serama. They had cocks and cockerels who had never seen each other running around with absouloulty no problems with each other. I also learned a good Serama should pose naturally with only a little bit of training. So I think chicks with your flock would be no problem, as the Seramas yesterday I saw yesterday were amazing with each other.

That's really weird? If the bedding in the nest box is deep? Then maybe they are still in the nest box? I have seen a silkie I had years ago take an egg that was laid in the floor up into the nest box! She used her beak, feet, and wings! Mabel another hen took her eggs? I would only give her 2 - 3 eggs under her... Because if for any reoson you have to move mama and her baby's, there's not too much to carry!

It's gonna be a busy week! I need to make a new coop for them. My problem is I keep changing the plan, but the pressure is on, it will be an indoor coop after all (just can't see putting any kind of sound proof coop outside and not have them suffocate in the heat, even at night.

I'll look again, but don't have high hopes. I do have 14 "cooking" in the 'bator that all look good, and my fear is that I'd lose them if I put them under her, but maybe not. Maybe their peeping will keep her alert? Yesterday I saw Harriet take over Hermione's eggs when she was on break, then both of them, then Hermione managed to squeeze Harriet out again, that's when I noticed the eggs were all new, and they weren't all under Hermione either. Just too much chaos for my comfort! However, if she can care for a few for the last 2 days or so, that'd be really awesome.

Taco and his friends in their new home!

That looks really awesome! Is that the modular cage or storage thing people were writing about not too long ago? For rabbits or box shelves, sold two different ways?? Looks awesome!

From my experience, I've tried marking the eggs and the marking comes off with all the rubbing. So perhaps those ARE the eggs, just not marked anymore. I've given up keeping eggs under the birds because the eggs always get so dirty looking from the hen.

I did mark them, and if it rubbed off (which is probable, as I did it with pencil) then they simply weren't properly cared for because they were pretty clear whereas the others are full at this/that point. I really want a certain number of hens for my two young boys, so I think I'll hatch these and then see if I can't slip them under Hermione after they hatch. I'll keep an eye on them then, and if she doesn't protect them, they'll go back in the brooder with the rest of the chicks :) I've now decided I don't want to risk losing more.

Stick the eggies under Miss Hermione, MUCH easier for her to accept unhatched eggs than babies....since she was sitting on some already. AND she has the proper temp & humidity all controlled for ya!
Magic marker will solve the problem of marking coming off. And yes them birides can do some strange things with those eggs if they put their minds to it. Amazing how they can move them......
