I just got my darlings yesterday!! They are actually not as small as I thought they would be... That must be first for this thread! Definitely one male - Sligo, definitely one female - Hermione, a little pullet - no name yet, and a little mystery - also no name. My younger sister got a pair as well - Liam and Iris. I love their coloring!! Very quiet too! One of my new favorites!

Hi everyone

. My son and I just picked up our first Serama chicks today, to be honest we were not planning on getting them originally. We picked up some ducks that needed a new home and picked up these three little sweeties while there. I was very surprised that they were jumping on us and cuddling up to us soon after getting them home (less than an hour). None of our other chickens ever did that so soon, and the only other ones that do not need an incentive (food) to hop on us are our two 2-wk-old silkie crosses. These lil spitfires already have a firm grip on my heartstrings... Front:Goldberry (pullet) Black(ish): Gandalf (cockerel) Right rear: Rosie Cotton (pullet) And my son pretending to be exacerbated by their bids for attention... Side note: free birds are very bad for chicken/duck math...

Someone has been reading The Fellowship. ;) Good names! :)

Good kid! ;D Some of the best names come from books! They are three adorable little birds you have there.

Thanks and I agree with getting names from stories.
Unfortunately it looks like two or all three have cocci, symptoms began yesterday, and we started them on corid this morning (had to go to the store to get it. I know I should have gotten it when I got the rest ot the meds so it was on hand).
Does anyone know if the doseage is the same for all chickens? I was able to find a dosage of 1/2 tsp per gal for chicks so I'm thinking it should be ok for 5 week old seramas. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I forgot to check if they were on medicated or non-medicated starter at their old home...I know big no no on my part. We've only used non-medicated. Yes they were outside, but were separated from the rest of our flock and there was no contact, and they were on a drier area than the majority of our property. I feel like a bad chicken momma right now...

How does one prep a Serama for a caged show, not table top? I'm taking mine to county fair on the 12th. My male poses but gets lazy. Does anyone have any tips to make him stand good?
