I'd really like input on some observations that I'm making with my hatchlings.. The oldest three are 7 weeks old, the youngest one is almost 4 weeks old.
I have 4 chicks, from the same parents: Cockerel= white(dominant)/black mottled, a little bit of "cappucino" coloring on his saddle feathers, Pullet= best description would be a Silver Quill? Silver Ginger? Something like that, she's primarily white, with dark penciling, but with salmon colors bleeding throughout.
I have 2 obvious male chicks are white/black mottled like dad, and 2 dark brown chicks that appear to be female at this point, at least no fast growing combs like the others.
Both my dark colored chicks are significantly smaller than all the other chicks of the same hatch date.
I guess my questions would be this...
#1 Are female chicks usually significatly smaller than males?
#2 If both my dark chicks turn out to be female, what is the likelihood that the next dark colored chick from this pair will be female?
I know that 4 is an awfully small sampling, to make generalizations from, but while I'm enjoying them, I am also trying to decode them.... yes, I'm a nerd.
