American serama thread!

Howdy yall!

My first post here in Serama land. I received 19 serama eggs, shipped to me from Florida. Air cells were a bit wobbly and saddled, but no worse than I expected. Only 2 clears out of the bunch, and 1 blood ring around day 8, but I have 16 developing beautifully on day 13! I'm in a bit of shock!

Yeah for you. Be aware that serama can hatch earlier than other breeds. Mine hatch in 19 days. Possibly, you only have 6 days to go.

I was actually going to ask what day everyone averages, because I had heard these usually hatch earlier. I've been scouring the thread, trying to find answers.

So should I increase humidity on day 17ish?

I normally stick with day 18 like other breeds. Maybe ask the seller when they normally hatch for them and go from there

Good idea! I sent her a message.

Normally, my hatches are not early. Pips on day 20, hatchers on day 21, bantams and large fowl alike. I set them Saturday afternoon, so luckily, I am off work on Friday thru Monday because of the holiday, so I should get to watch!

What do I do with a chick that has curled toes and falls on its back multiple times a day? Cull it? I dont have time to be flipping it over every few hours it eats and can walk but flips over allot.

Hopefully there is someone who would like it as a pet; often, those that are special needs become a special pet. Serama do make interesting pets. Barring that, you have a decision to make...

Is it star gazing? Or newly hatched, maybe the belly is still big, causing it to roll over? Curled toes are an easier fix.

Fix the feet and maybe it will stand and walk better.

Immobilize the bird & it's leg. Work slowly & carefully position the toes.
Leave them on for at least 3 or 4 days.

What has happened with Spaz and Porcupine? I would like to see the baby pictures for Spaz again. And what he/she looks like now.

For those with hens with really nice vertical tails, do you have profile pictures of them as chicks 2-3 days old? I'm trying to see if there is any indication of how chicks will turn out. Please post the pictures if you can. I have a new chick who is shaped quite different than my previous chicks. And I am wondering...

Madam Poofy Brow still has Spaz but her next Tribble hatch failed near the end. Quail eggs hatched in the same batch.
She doesn't want any more eggs. Another casualty of the Tribble Curse.

I am putting eggs in an incubator tonight at 100.5 degrees with no water.

The chicks in the beginning of this video include Dorothy & her Siblings.
