Couldnt stand it...had to candle the eggs again....all 11 have veining...so i would think at least a few of them will hatch!!! Gonna have seramas for xmas...very cool!

They are so pretty! I like the frizzle so much. I hope mine hatch so bad. I will be so disappointed if they dont. One question though... Is the medicated chick starter good for new hatchlings? Should they just be started on that and then keep them on it or switch them to nonmedicated? Not sure about that. Anyone have advice on that? I got grit, electrolyte additive for the water and was planning on getting medicated chick starter. Thanks for your wealth of knowledge.

I think it's impossible to be completely hands off, if you're anything like me! Even setting up the incubator I'm always trying to get a better temp., LOL Sorr for the crack though, gardeningmama, but if they're toward the end it might be just fine! If the inner membrane with the blood vessels was not damaged, no biggie! (or if the blood was already absorbed, you just helped him out
)They don't need grit for a while, at least a few weeks. I'm no expert but I didn't use medicated starter, I just gave them unpasteurized Apple Cyder Vinegar (ACV people write here on BYC) in their water and some yogurt. That builds up good bacteria and acidity in their system to fight Coccidiosis, which is all the medicated feed does. But the medicated feed is ok, make sure you grind it up to small bits so the tiny chicks can eat it! I used mash for my chicks, and they were able to get out what they needed to eat from that without grinding. Save the electrolyte additive for when one of the chicks is ill, it's not necessary, unless you have the chicks delivered from a hatchery, in which case they've been stressed and possibly dehydrated and hungry.

For crying out loud, I already had to break my new "hands off rule"... checked on my egg and another had a nice hole in it. CONDENSATION BUILD UP ON THE WINDOW WAS DRIPPING DIECTLY ON THE HOLE! I really HAD to open it this time, so now I'm hoping this ones okay! Good Grief!!
Give it up gardeningmama, and just go with instinct! I figure if ya got it, use it! LOL.

Hey! It's been a while since I've posted here, but I have a couple of pics to share! I had some Castle Delight eggs hatch a while back, and
the babies are now about 10 weeks old! 6 hatched, and I have 2 boys that I just absolutely adore!
Anyone have any idea on what to call these colors?
