American serama thread!

I could make you one (some) if you want, but unfortunately I can;t make them for as cheap as the others in the BST forum.

Mine are great in the car. I started just puttin gthem in a harness and on a leash and setting them in the front seat and they would stay put but seemed a little on edge. Now I put a milk crate in the front seat with a towel draped over and in so they don't have to wear a harness in the car - I put it on them before they get out - and they are much more comfortable and less antsy being able to perch on the edge of the crate.

All right, I think I have some color guesses on my youngsters!

That is so super AWESOME!!! I am totally going to be watching this haha

I was wondering, what kind of incubator are you using? It looks like the Brinsea Mini - I actually just got mine in the mail this week, would love to hear what you think of it, and if there is anything about it you can suggest for Serama hatching as I have a doz. eggs coming next week for the NYD hatch

Thank you everyone for you responses I have one more qustion , I have them in a converted cardboard box its one of the super heavey duty wardrobe boxes you can get when moveing and can actually hang colthes in and stuff, I have it laying on its side with wire mesh window in front thats about 2 1/2 feet long and 1 1/2 tall? . They have been in this since they were out of the brooder that needed heat , these guys are house chickens they stay indoors and come and and play often,Im in the process of getting diapers for everyone so they can stay out more . My question is I want to replace there cage and I saw some really big dog kennels at the local Coastal , could I use one of those for there cage since they are mosty only gonna be n it whenIm gone or at night to sleep ect?? I dont know the deminsions but I could crawl in there and turn arund an stuff no problem and Im 5'9" and a big girl.

I love my brin sea mini .. I love I can see so clearly , I did have some problems with it , it was a fluke I am pretty sure but I had a fualty circiut board and had to send it in twice to get it fixed , first time they paid for it and just tried to fix the circut board the second time Ipaid to ship it back to them but they replaced the whole circut board , this is my test hatch after getting it back , so far its stayed between 99.5-100 the whole 20 days I have had it on these eggs are on day 19 . I really like it , the one thing I would suggest is have it running for a day or two if you can t make sure it will hold temp, and get some rubber?? drawer liner type stuff or soemthing for the bottom its so slick I could see a chick getting splay leg or slipping tendon ect , I have a wash cloth cut to fit in mine cuase I coudntt get to the store when I set the test batch. I set 8 serama pullet eggs and like 10 quail eggs the quail didnt do anything but I had to times that thepower got unplugged so Im not sure but 7 serama eggs started one quit by day7 or 10 or s and the rest were going strong when I put them in lock down .

So do you have the eco or the advance?

Do you turn by hand? I have seen that some people use the turning tray and just fill up all the little spaces between the bar dividers on the turning disc os I wondered if it gets crowded or you need to turn the extras by hand?

I have 3 little serama , king georg , mini and sweetypie , if I hatch another hen or two I really like I will consider keepingthem , My guess is I will stick to 3 but wont go past5 if i keep more.

Little one looks like they decided they want to zip out by makeing a big enough squar hole to climb thru little goof ball

Hey guys, when you put your eggs on lock down do you put them on anything so when others are hatching and hoping around they will not roll the other eggs? I don't go on lock down for 9 days, but I don't want to just lay them flat on the bottom of the incubator. Any advice of something to put them in that will allow them to wiggle around and hatch, but not get knocked around in the incubator by hatch mates.

I use egg cartons also or If I have room I use the hatching trays from my GQF.
