American serama thread!

My little serama is still lonely I can't find more seramas for companions. What LF breeds would you recommend to put with my serama hen. I will get a laying hen.

I would also do bantams although my serama roo did ok with LF and if you got silkies they would go broody then you could have serama eggs dhipped to you.

How do you house your seramas? Can they live in coops with other bantams?

I haven't posted in quite awhile, but I try to keep all the posts read and know most of you....I wanted to show off my wins at the recent Cajun Classic. Total entries in excess of 400 birds.

2013 CC Champion Silkied Male and Champion Silkied Female (both homebred birds)

They look wonderful. My last boys born December 30th have bad looking feathers, I think because they're in a cage with multiple levels that they love to climb into corners etc... I think they rub their feathers n stuff. So when they move into their new digs, I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to help condition their feathers beyond feeding BOSS? I think one is a frizzle with the gene that turns it off (or tones it down, as in his case) and the other is a sizzle and his wing feathers look like sticks. I'm hoping I'll have better conditions for them for when they go into their adult molt. I think they could be so much prettier! So any suggestions would be really appreciated!

Yeah, I'm excited to get my birds from Laura, she is just giving them to me since they are pet quality birds and she just wants them to have a good home and be spoiled. We are meeting up at a poultry swap and sharing a table. She and I live 3 hours from each other and are friends on Facebook. She really is a nice person and her birds are so friendly and cute! If all goes well I am planning on developing a variety of Seramas that I haven't seen yet. I want to create a Booted Serama that has either Frizzled Feathers. I think it will be adorable and quite a unique looking bird.

She was probably 24-48 away from hatching too! Man I'm so mad!
She hadn't finished sucking up the yolk yet even. So I'm thinking maybe the cooler bator eggs are way younger than I thought... If so, have I caused horribledamage by putting them in lock down 2-3 days earlier than they were supposed to?

So the 6 in the brinsea are all pipped!!!! But not one has hatched, and the ones that had pipped this morning have not made ANY progress... What the heck? They are al chirping though!

I don't think it will make that much of a difference. I really hope your brinsea eggs hatch all right, it's a pretty good machine!

They can be housed like any other chicken. My problem is I hatched out boys that I didn't want to get rid of and my neighbors don't want to hear, LOL. So they're living inside the house. I just got the carcass of a really big double decker "aviary" (nice euphemism, eh?) in the house. it has two levels, 3 feet high, almost 3' X4' each level. I'll be splitting each level into two units and house trios or quatros in each.

Well, sad news. Luna pecked at one the one hatched chick from Harriet and killed it. I took Hermione and Harriet out and put them in the unfinished "aviary" to get away from her. Sirius freaked out and wouldn't shut up. Harriet abandoned her egg to go back to Sirius and Luna, so I gave her egg to Hermione and now I don't think I'll let Hermione raise them. I don't want to lose another one that way, so when the eggs all hatch, I'm putting the chicks in with the others in my bedroom brooder.

Also, one of the chicks seems to have a problem leg. I am going to try and put a bandaid splint on it right now, then get my butt in bed, LOL. Good night ya'all!!!

I think we're from the same area! I'm going to a poultry swap this weekend and getting a dozen serama eggs from Laura too. I'm so excited! My first purebred seramas

I did have a serama silkie mix who was such a sweetheart, but she passed away a month ago.

Turning is most important the first few weeks from what I've read, locking them down early shouldn't hurt as long as humidity isn't too high. Good luck, hope you hatch lots of babies!

Mine live with other bantams, large fowl, bantam ducks, and geese. I wouldn't trust a large fowl roo around them, but if you have easygoing large fowl hens it shouldn't be a problem.
