American serama thread!

I love their little adolescent antics!!!

So I have a question for you guys - I now have 11 serama thanks to Fuzzy bird =D and at least 3 of my 6 girls are laying eggs. If you don't hatch them all, what do you do with your eggs?? Just eat them like regular eggs? lol
Every one I get I want to put in the incubator, but I just got a dz+ from Bhep today and I already have at least a dz from my new girls in the bator. If I keep adding an egg or two every day I will be so overrun with serama it will look like a plague! haha What do I do with all the eggs? I'm a super hatch-a-holic right now so it's really hard for me to NOT put fertile eggs in my incubators lol
HI . We use ours and I scramble them and feed them to the Serama and my growing LF chicks.
Fun for deviled eggs,,,,,,,fun to blow out and decorate.

Kuku, I found one more egg after you left. I cracked it open and it was fertile! Don't count on all of them being fertile tho. They were Holly Berry's first eggs.

Well... The saddest thing happened with little Raine the other day... It was kinda cute though too. Anyways, she was preening herself, and as she did her wing, she grabbed on to it and couldn't figure out how to let go!! She started running in circles and peeping in distress. Just about gave me a heart attack. Eventually she figured out how to let go and was unharmed. I wish I could have gotten it on video!
Aww, poor silly girl, glad she lost the grip!

I eat them. If I want to make, like one pancake, or something small, but need egg in the recipe, I use a serama egg! I'm finding that having 3 sizes of eggs (actually more like 5 sizes, LOL) Is quite useful! If the girls hurt the eggs, like twice last week I got eggs that had pecked holes in them, those I cooked up and fed back to the birds or the dog.

Hermione's egg hatched this morning, and this evening I took the chick away and put it in the brooder box with the others. It seems to be getting on with the others just fine and even started eating already! I then took Hermione and put her inside the brooder box to show her all the little babies they made. She looked at all the chicks (who cowered in fear, LOL, except the one she just hatched) And then she started eating all their food, LOL. I then took her back to the cage with Sirius, Harriet and Luna, and she started eating like a very hungry bird. Last I looked she was moving around like a non-broody bird again! However, Harriet is still brooding on air and Luna, though she moves around and perches on the roost, hasn't laid an egg in 2 weeks, UGH! Neither has Harriet, so I'm hoping Hermione will break this madness and get them to start laying again with her??

I did show Harriet the other chicks but she still wants to hatch air eggs

've had one or two do that... you think they are seizing and dying or something, and they finally let go almost with a relieved look on their face LOL!

Well, got three serama eggs from my Black-Tailed White'ish roo/Pumpkin hen pair and am looking to set on Saturday. I hope she lays more by them, but even if she doesn't I still plan to fire up the bator.

I am now down to one hen from my adult birds, one hen died from stress and another hen flew away and hasn't been seen in 2 days.Sad, but all part of chickens, particularly Seramas I've realized. Everyone else is doing just fine, though.

The 8 week old babies are a hoot. I have them staying in my room in a wire dog crate and they are all super friendly. Ferdinand, my SQ-looking Millie roo and Leonardo, my probably SQ Pumpkin'ish roo have started try crowing, both adorable and ear-splitting. The hens are growing up to be hen-like and squawky, but still sweet.

Cluck-Cluck, I love the Harry Potter names, lol and congrats on the chicks. Glad hermione's baby finally hatched. If Serius is having children with Hermione, does Ron know about it? lol. Sorry, just had to do the pun

Hey guys! The eggs I got from Charliesweb1k's started hatching! Got one little blondie out! I got a problem though... I only have layer feed. Can I feed these newborn seramas layer feed? I can only go to the feed store on Sunday to get chick starter.

Yep yep, right in Austin, north end :D
That's where I want to move! Move over I'm a commin! LOL. Gotta get bugger hubby to agree

Thought I would show how peanut is doing. She was born all crooked but she was eating and drinking on her own.

And just to post her hatch mates.

Aww, Peanut is doing great and so are her hatchmates! I hope my little dude with the slipped tendon will eventually grow out of it! S/he seems to be getting around and eating and drinking, but maybe not enough, 'cause s/he seems to be so much smaller than the others! S/he always was a bit smaller, but now is looking a lot smaller. Of course, they really do grow at different rates, so...

Aw, I'm sorry you lost some, but glad you have a batch of babies growing. They are awfully cute little buggers. I was with my friend at the pick your on vegies farm we like to go to and their chickens started playing keep-away. She was laughing so hard, and I said yah! Chickens LOVE to play keep-away, and they're so much fun to watch! I love watching the chicks when I catch them doing that (or the older ones)

Thanks, I'm terrible at names, so sticking with a theme really helps, LOL

I think I have to name my beautiful black one Bellatrix if she turns out to be a she

You should not have to feed them till sunday. They can wait 3 days before they need to eat.
