I think you're talking about how the down looks sticky. I'm pretty sure it is just that, sticky from the goo in the egg. They'll fluff out better over time, so don't worry about it. Some just don't come out as "clean" as others :)

There is also a chance that it is a frizzle, as the down often looks like it's sticking up funny, but I haven't seen enough of that to recognize it off the bat :)

Cute babies posted lately!! As for the question about the down, I think it is partly sticky down (which, like was mentioned, will fluff out) OR possibly frizzle down... The one baby really looks like it's down is "curly"

My new babies, out of the eggs I got from Dawn Watson here in Texas:

First one is AF Mini, since this is a tiny tiny baby; so dainty and adorable!

Then AF Malatesta:

AF Mercedes:

And last but not least, the striking snowy beauty AF Maya:

AND my bonus bird I got at the store when I picked up feed.... AF Oogly ( bow-tie naked neck) LOL!!! Shes not showing her cute neck here, but believe me, it's naked

its not goo. if you notice the fluff in the back of the neck are not as big as the others. charlie said people only get silkied out of his eggs, not frizzled. he dosn't even have frizzled birds. for those of you who know what im talking about. it kinda feels like the down was burnt there. it feels like thin fishing line. S/He feels like that all over.

Maybe those are it's tiny pin feathers coming in that you feel? This chick, the darker one under the lighter one turned out to be silkie and frizzled:

(I honestly can't tell the difference)

The lighter chick above him turned out to have strange feathers that I suspect are frizzle with the modifier gene to make him look smooth but instead make him look a little strange. His feathers don't lay down quite as nicely and his hackle feathers curl a lot. Do you remember "feathered bangs" in the late 70's? LOL
