. I don't really care. they are all sweet......................
Of my 10 seramas only 3 are hens. They are all sweeties so who cares. They also have the tiniest and most pathetic crows ever, lol

She got off the eggs? i gave her 2 eggs 4 hours ago and she was on them until now? she seemed soo committed to it? what do you guys think?
I usually give them 5 days to see if they are committed or not. She may have thought she was going to set and then decided against it.

You will have to let us know how the cat toys go! I think I will get some bells! I definitely want to make them some branches to jump around on and some swings. How big of swings do you give them?

Man talk about spoiled chickens!!! How many do you have?
Yep, they are totally spoiled and know it, too!

The swings I use are the large cockatiel sized ones or sometimes small parrot sized ones. Basically any swing big enough for them to sit on will work. As for the cat toys, I hung them from strings in the center of the coop at eye level and they pecked at them and played with them. The little balls with the bells in them resulted in a bit of fun while they chased them around, but at first they ran from them.

I currently have 10 seramas, one smooth pair, 2 booted roos, 1 booted pullet, 3 smooth cockerals, 1 semi-booted pullet, and 1 frizzled roo. I got them from Castle Delight Seramas 2 weeks ago and I love them already. My pair and frizzled roo are 1 1/2 years old, the booted boys are 14 weeks old, and all of the others are like 11 weeks old...or is it 9, lol. I can't wait for my babies to start laying.

Also, that vid was amazing! I have seen a few move like that when candled and it is amazing every time.
Sorry for sounding like a mom, but.... Hatching is addictive, are you sure you have room for so many birds? LOL

LOL, Do any of us? I have all of the materials to build my 8'x8'x8' aviary, so I'll have plenty of room for my hatching this season.

If this is her first time going broody she may not commit. The first hen I had that went broody I only gave her 3 eggs. I was warned not to do it because most first timers quit. I figured if she started on the eggs and quit I would just take the eggs and put them in the incubator to finish up. A momma hen does get off her eggs to go and eat, drink and poop everyday. Sometimes it's only for a few minutes. Sometimes it's a little longer. My hen did stay broody and hatched out 2/3 eggs on her first try.

She did something similar on saterday. She sat on the egg she laid for an hour. Yesterday it was for four hours. Let's just say she hatches babys next time, can I keep them all in the coop and they eat later feed, or put then somewhere else with chick starter for her and the chicks?

I kept her and the chicks in a dog crate in the coop. Gave them a chick waterer and chick starter so momma could teach the chicks how to eat and drink. After 2 days of confinement she had had enough and wanted out. Against my better judgement I let her and the chicks out with the other 4 chickens ( the roo was in there too) and everyone got along fine. The roo was actually scared of the chicks. I have heard that the other chickens can and will kill the chicks so you have to decide what is best in your situation.
