American serama thread!

Quote: Well, this is supposedly the Gold Partridge colouring looks like, but this is a Dutch hen. I was wondering because recently I got a hen who does not look like a Serama, has gold partrisge colouring, but was sold as a Serama. She does not however have the traits of a Dutch. I will try and get photos soon.

Here are some pics of chestnut my supposedly serama hen.

Here is the coop that they will be staying in this winter.
Needs paint, or not. We'll see. :)

There is the addition that my DH just put on left of the door.

Here they are peeking up at me, they always come over hoping for treats. So fun. :)

Here is the inside, to the left is the addition..made a lot more room!

Those are nest boxes, there is the heat lamp, trying to think of a different are for it for
the winter..and you can't see it, but there is a roost up high, which they like, high. :)

One dead give away is that she has long white legs. Serama typically have short yellow or olive green legs. It's pretty hard to tell pure from crosses or other breeds when you're first starting out. She's beautiful, I love the faint brown lacing behind her shoulders!

How often do people's serama hens lay? I have one, really pretty, I got from a breeder here in Can. She laid one egg the day after she came home, (Oct 7) and hasn't appeared to have layed anything else since... Do most serama hens take a week off?

Also, about how long after a pullet's comb turns really red and starts to get bigger would she probably start to lay?

HI,
Mine lay almost daily ................Your girl might just be a little stressed from the move.
Also, about 4 1/2 months is when mine start to lay....sounds like yours is very close...........

Okay sorry for the double 'I'm getting Serama eggs!' posts. BYC on my app said the first one didn't go through so I posted again. Then got on the desktop computer and saw it did go through >.<

ANNNNNYWAYS. Thanks for the advice guys! I'm thinking I will be going with sand for the bedding. I used shavings for my LW chicks and was not really fond of it. Now I just have to get the hutches built. I'm starting off with a 5ft by 2 ft brooder hutch and hopefully will have more adult hutches built by the time they are ready for them. And they will DEF be kept inside. My big fluffy butts are fine outside with the donkey and dogs guarding their coops just in case something comes on the property but I think the little serama's would attract much more attention from the local wildlife and I don't want to risk it.
