American serama thread!

I have just had a closer look at chick 5 and there are definite pink lines where the wattles should be and if I am not imagining things the comb appears to be pinker near the base so I am thinking that he is definitely Eddie, checked chick 2 who doesn't have lines or a comb for that matter

Only 5 weeks old...I'd have to say all boys....
my girls are 10 weeks and hardly have a comb at all and have no wattles.

Thanks that was what i was thinking as well, it seems my hatch rate around here is 95% boys

Ok I have a question and I hope someone has an answer, I have 5 little chicks (I have already put pics on this thread), they would appear to be serama x four have single combs and one of those has feathered legs, my other one appears to have a pea comb and feathered legs, all are about the same size, what might produce a chick like that?

I picked up my babies today!!! Here they are

My guess is I have 1 male and three females do to how they stand and what they do when I flip them over on their backs!

Usually stands like a female and didn't kick at all when flipped stood like this about to peck my finger

Pea comb is Old English Game Bantam (A very common bird that gets mixed with the serama to the chagrin of us breeders of PURE serama) . Feathered legs I have seen on the old english too, but not sure how that happens???

Ok thanks for that, I have heard that where my eggs came from had OEGBs, so it looks like mine are Serama Roo x OEGB hen, love seeing how they change on a daily basis

I have decided that I am going to sell Rooder come this Fall...I have thin out my flock and Cogburn is now the bird I will be using as flock leader....Rooder is almost two years old and is in great condition...I have many chicks from him and he is very gentle and likes to be held. He is also very protective of his flock...I heard a big ruckus the other day and ran out to see him trying to fight a 5 foot rat snake off of a chick...I killed the snake and saved the chick. I cant keep Rooder and Cogburn together because they would kill each other for top spot. If anyone is interested please PM me.

Aren't they a blast to watch and play with? AND around 4 weeks their individual personalities start coming out, MORE fun to come!
