American serama thread!

Awesome birds yall!
I came home last night, and this little nugget had hatched. My first one from eggs!
So do I separate the baby ...or separate the mom and the baby from the other birds? She's protecting him fiercely. I want to " let nature take its course"...but I don't want the baby harmed by the other hens.

Very cute.
Mom will usually protect them from the other ladies.
Only problem I've had is with a first time Mom with 7 chicks who suffocated two of them at night.
She was probably standing on their necks and she didn't realize it.
Your hen shouldn't have problem keeping track of just a single chick.

I separate new moms and chicks for a few days until the chicks have full use of their legs; and to ensure that they are eating and drinking as they should.

Good luck.

Oh wow I have missed a lot today. Lol!!! So exciting! Good luck, congrats and I can't wait to see pics to everyone! I hope that cover everyone all at once. Lol!!!!

My silkie hen hatched serama chicks yesterday. In the past she has hatched and raised serama. My silkie is larger than cochin. Good luck.

My other hen's are going crazy over these eggs. I have them in a dog carrier in a separate run. When I let my broody out to roam this morning a couple of the other hen's got into the run. They keep frantically circling the carrier with the eggs, looking in, clucking, just having a fit. Anybody know what's going on?
