American serama thread!

Here is my frizzle and Silkie feathered pen.. .Acorn is the smooth feathered pullet.. .she doesn't like any of the other roosters... She stops eating and drinking so until I figure something else out she'll stay in that pen. I have a 2 month old Silkie feathered pullet that I will put with them but when she's bigger. And my Acorn issues are resolved.

I'm thinking of bringing my 2 seramas inside this winter. Do you keep them in parrot cages or dog crates? Any housing ideas for me would be welcome.

(The silkies & OEG hens should be OK inside the coop.)
I use large dog crates, two to a crate. I have nipple waterers and hanging feeders (parrot ones) to try and keep food wastage down.

I kept one female inside most of last winter, occasionally would bring another one or two in with her. I used a rabbit cage, its about 3' x 1.5' x 2' tall. I added a skirt of scrap pleather around the bottom because she would kick a lot of shavings out. And I added a tree branch for her to roost on. Also had the waterer raised on a wire basket to keep the shavings out of it. But it worked for her temporary home. I'd let her out most evenings, she pretty much stayed on my wood stove, or on a tv tray, or on my lap. :D

He’s so tiny compared to them! Adorable! :love
I'm guessing just as my Silkie & Sebright have always been infertile (due to having giant LF orpington roosters), that my silkied serama will be unable to fertilize the big LG orps.

Now that we have a mini rooster, I'm hoping the bantam girls will finally be able to hatch their own fertilized eggs. Of course, I still enjoy watching the little hens cover their giant babies.
