Ohh wow thank you hoping I do have 3 hens
Not long now till lock down on the incubator, I'm so excited, totally addicted, wasn't going to hatch but can't bring myself to eat the eggs because the rooster is 'so active' I can see me with too many and not wanting to part with them, kinda hoping for a roo in next hatch to go with the 3 new ones, see what happens

I put a few test eggs in the incubator.
@WVduckchick You're a grandma!

2 eggs due 10-6 made it to lockdown and yesterday one hatched. (Sadly the other egg pipped but stopped peeping overnight. I opened it this morning & saw a fully formed chick & the yolk was completely absorbed. Because it was so early, I made myself wait.)

.... but here's the good part:

The remaining 2 eggs are due to hatch 10-8. (Which could be tomorrow based on the progress of 1st chick.) One of those eggs pipped today.

Chances are good that it’s fertile. My serama Roos are sneaky little horn dogs. :lol:
Do you want to hatch it?? Normally folks wait at least a week or two before incubating pullet eggs, just to let the pullet get “regular” with good consistent shells, size, shape, etc. And while first eggs can be fertile, they aren’t as viable.

But! I did hatch a pullets first egg. I had just loaded the incubator with other eggs the day she laid it, so I popped it in too, and it hatched!

If there's a rooster, then there's a good chance it's fertile. However, I find that early pullet eggs are not the best ones to hatch. They can be irreg shaped, thick or porous shells, & possibly hatch out weaker/smaller chicks. Seasons also matter. Chicks have a high survival rate in spring summer when conditions are optimal. The hens forage and have a better diet than simple chicken feed. In fall winter, green grass, bug snacks, & sunlight are scarce, so the weaker chicks may not make it. I'm not sure if it's the same for these tiny breeds, but I found it true with my Orpingtons.
