American serama thread!

I want a Serama one day :D

You must get them. They are the coolest, friendliest birds ever. With the greatest personalities. They are almost not even like chickens..I've had pet house birds that were not nearly as friendly!

if you move a hen in with a new rooster how long is it till you can be sure that the eggs are fertilized by the new rooster

That’s a debatable question, I think. Some say a hen can have fertile eggs from one rooster 3-4 weeks after the rooster is gone. And also that a new rooster can fertilize eggs the same day he is introduced.

So is she carrying eggs in the chute that could be fertilized by either? I would assume so. So to be sure they aren’t leftover from the old rooster, I think the recommendation is at least 3 weeks.

Had a woman buy some large Birds (I don't eat eggs and my coworkers offered me 75¢ a dozen for eggs , so I sold them) had my Serama babies outside for some sunshine she actually offered me $200 for the 9 babies.. No way Jose! Hands off!

:gig
I hope you got her number for later, at least. Cause you are gonna be run over with them before long. :P

yeah I have her number . These were my silkied babies getting some Sun. Going to let them grow out a bit . She didn't know anything about Serama. These are still needing heat at night and I still grind the baby food :love

Well my first ever hatch, so happy, mum hatched one that died I incubated the 3 she has now, in pics, two on 13/8
One on 20/8 she seems a fab mum. I now have 6 incubating off a new hen who isn't broody (yet ! I'm living in hopes) and quite a few eggs off her and another in their chosen laying spots, I'm hoping one or both the other hens go broody. Iv read , stared, read again, stared more lol..still I don't know what sex the new ones are. Help..although whatever the outcome I'm very attached and they will be staying. Put the pic of mum n chicks looking in my conservatory and the dog looking out at them lol.i have to say with a lot of patience and dog on lead sat out, he's great now with the birds and all enjoy the garden, with dog giving my rooster a very wide berth, still I wouldn't let him out alone with babies about, I'm always there.
Any help with the sex is greatly appreciated . Thank you ☺

Welcome!! Very pretty birds. At 7-8 weeks, I don't see any obvious cockerels. Usually at least a dominant one will show his comb sooner than that.

Good luck with your current hatch. And careful what you wish for with broody hens. Mine are perpetually broody! :gig
