I think I’ve done some in it, I honestly can’t remember
I know I did bantam cochins in it just fine.

I think they would be ok though, they would just maybe stay against one side of the turner slot, and you may need to check them every so often to make sure they are positioned ok. Or could you hand-turn? You could just take the turner out, if you are able to hand-turn. I wish they made another turner rack with smaller slots.

I have that incubator and my serama turned and hatched perfectly fine in it.

My tiny frizzle hen has this broody thing all wrong. She keeps stuffing her self under my Silkie broody. It was the funniest sight. I’m trying to break them so I keep moving them out of their nest and she runs over and tucks herself underneath the Silkie. She’s got scary stuff down she growls if anyone even walks into that end of the coop and walks around looking like a tiny porcupine screeching at anything in her way.

(Were they trying to hatch another feed dish & how did they move it?) The silkie is not at all bright and serama is just plain stubborn.

I finally gave in and gave each hen a big orpington egg. This way it's easy for me to collect all the bantam eggs. After the 1st night I found BOTH eggs under the tiny serama...... and the silkie went back to incubating the food dish.


I started some eggs last week, so if they stay broody, they can raise the incubator chicks.

A food dish, what is she even thinking? These broodies have pulling out my hair this year. I have to stay on my toes and watch them closely because they are really good at hiding eggs in the bedding. I have 15 Silkies and 4 serama chicks I’m growing out and plan on keeping about half for a new blue splash breeding group, so we do not need anymore chicks.
I changed the nest box area around and moved it to the other end of the coop, most of them were laying down there anyway. I did it slowly first taking out old nest boxes and setting up milk crates, then adding kick board to keep bedding in and yesterday adding curtains. This morning the hens that aren’t broody are being very vocal, apparently they are not thrilled with my choice in curtains

My broody hens also have their own daily antics. They keep playing musical eggs. How & why do they keep switching? My bantam coop only has 2 large nest boxes - each with a broody in it, of course. The other hens just climb in and deposit their eggs..... which the broody immediately rolls under herself. I've been regularly removing the new eggs.

Today's event involves my OEG (hatch sibling to my broody serama). The OEG already went broody and hatched her eggs 5 weeks ago. I sold all but one orpington chick for her to raise:


Although the chick is the same size as the bantams, she continues to stay with her mama. For some reason, the OEG hen is nestling herself under the serama - like a chick. Is the OEG trying to go broody & steal the egg? Is she just keeping her friend company? At 1st I thought she was trying to deposit an egg, but her comb is still pale & she's still caring for her giant 5 wk old chick. Since the orp chick follows her mama, she too is in the same nest box. Thankfully there's enough room for all 3, but it confuses me.

If she's trying to get under the other hen, she is trying to steal the egg (and spot) and incubate it herself

Got my show table finally, and tried everyone out on it briefly. We were not impressed.

How much room do I need to house a pair or trio of serama indoors? All ideas on housing and maintenance welcome. I am thinking of using Sweet PDZ on flooring for easy cleaning and odor control. I’ve had new and recent fox problems outdoors which I need to get under control. Have lived peacefully with them 6 years, now have a chicken killer.

Having a strange hatch. I needed my good incubator, so I moved the eggs into the back up incubator/hatcher last Thurs. I expected them to hatch on the 21st.

I got one serama on Tues (pics below)
one serama on Wed night
and another serama this morning.

..... Will any more be hatching?

One lav orp egg pipped but died yesterday while zipping. All the other orp & sussex eggs looked great but show no signs of life. My theory is the temp must have been too low - causing a delay. At least I'm hoping for a delay & that more will continue to hatch.

Meanwhile, this 1st chick is Noodle's. It has Noodle's color & Teddy's leg fuzz, which will disappear. The other 2 came from the Dec pullets. There's a 50% chance of getting a silkied serama. Both look white.

I couldn't get a good pic of the 2nd one. The 3rd is still very wet.
