I am glad you like it...
I have had sand inside both of my coops and also in my Serama cage. There doesn't seem to be any perfect bedding, but this is pretty easy to clean. Sometimes I'll just sit on a stool in the coop and using a fine wire basket, I will sift the sand and have a chat with the chickens. It's very therapeutic!! I have found that my hens still like shavings in the nest boxes. Some of it gets into the sand but it can't do any harm and my hens are happier.
If you weight the option, the sand still way cheaper and easier to clean then the shavings, you don't get any poop stick on your hand or smearing all over when you cleaning...I do put a layer of sand on the bottom of my nest box with shavings on top to keep the eggs from rolling all over the place. To keep the sands clean from all the debrris and sanitize, I replace the sand every 3 months to soak them in bleach, rinse with regular water and leave them out in the sun to dry with the old ones then reuse them later on.
