American serama thread!

I am worried about the month olds, too. Also grain and mash doesn't have any moisture. (I use apple rings to provide moisture more than nutrition). Keep checking your tracking number and if they get into your area, try to intercept them so they don't have to spend the night.

Good luck Zoomummy

I should have clarified that the pip was actually a hole already
poked through...............

I have tracked the package with no info. If I had known they wouldn have made it here today neither one of us would have shipped. They should be here tomarrow at 9am. that is the onlk time we get mail. I would drive and pick them up if I knew where the heck they were. I think that the will come from Albuquerque today. I am 6 hours away, but as soon as I get an idea of where they are at I will head out for them! I am so mad.

X'2 gazillion! They are the greatest little birdies on the planet! Here is a cool example.....I took my pair of seramas to a mom&pop fabric store [they were dying to see them] I plopped them on the glass topped counter and the two just stood there! People cam to oogle and touch and hold and they were little angels! They had NEVER done that before. Good birdies!

What a bummer. That's scary.
I'm planning on wiring half an apple inside my boxes to provide some moisture.
Hope they make it to you safely.

Slice the apple side to side in 1/2" rings (leave the middle in)....that way the apple flesh is always exposed to them no matter how much litter scratching them do and put several slices in. They won't do anything if all they can see is the skin. You have to feed them apples as treats long before you plan to ship. They won't eat them if they don't know what they are. Apple provides both moisture and food, isn't messy and doesn't spoil. I always provide it even if I think it is just going to be overnight....you never know how long.

Did he put any 'food' in the box? I usually put a big chunk of watermelon in there for them. If he did they should be fine.

I don't think I've had any live shipments make it in one day. Drop-off is by 3 p.m. at my P.O. and they are almost always guaranteed by 3 p.m. the next day. They never get where they're going until at least the morning after they were supposed to arrive.

ETA: Sorry, missed the part about the scratch and chick mash.

ETA again: Oranges work well for shipping live birds also, at least live birds that peck. When I ship ducks or geese I soak some romaine lettuce or fresh clover in water for a while and put that in their box

They told him that he could not put anything in the box because it would compromise the box. He snuck in the mash and the scratch! I am going to get an ulcear over this!!!!
