American serama thread!

is it just me or does anyone else look at the backgrounds of the photo's? they sure tell alot more than the picts.... love to see clean cages, green yards, carpeted tables, terrible to view coops full of poo, rusty old trucks or just plain trash

since you asked, personally i would not use him as my foundation breeder. if you can, buy eggs from reputable breeder hatch and save the best, rehome the rest (rehome to someone who will not breed but likes small chickens)
i qualify my buyers - if they are breeding, they will get optimal breeding birds at optimal prices - if they want small chickens i give them my culls - if they are breeders trying to buy breeding birds at pet quality prices i dont sell them anything at all....
if they are breeders on another island and are trying to achieve quality i may even give those pairs away too

sorry still cant load picts

i do like the color of delia, even though she is not posing she looks to be the right 'type' she may give you some nice babies
Thanks for the advice.

Delia is one of my better birds I like her type quite a bit and I'm curious to see if breeding her with Charles will produce anything worth while. Possibly not, but one can never really tell until they try it. I'm working with what I have to produce the best I can with what I've got.

I like the way all of my birds look, to tell the truth. Though to show breeders they aren't much for looks, they are quite apealing to me. I'm not much in it for money or anything, just for the learning experience and a bit of playing around with genetics. Not to mention the Fun!

With Seramas there is alsways a market for culls. They are tiny, sweet tempered, and adorable. Even the top breeders will be contacted by those who are looking for the cute factor!

I like to look at the backgrounds as well.

It reall sells the bird depending on surroundings in the picture. Either a good or a bad sell.

Fresh grass, sunshine, clean shavings, and carpeted tables are good sellers and make your birds look happy and you look professional. Lots of poop and garbage just makes them look uncared for and unprofessional.

:) I ALWAYS am looking at backgrounds, because its my nosey background! I try my hardest to get the perfect backgrounds most the time, but in Texas...not much green grass in the last couple of years! But I do try and get those good pics! Unlike the one that I photo chopped my husbands foot out of, but you can still see his hairy leg! haha!

Yay Cat is back she looks awesome ... I love her color .... isnt it something when you want them to pose they never seem to lol ... That is why I give up with the pullets ... She is very nice Cat
Thanks ;) I try to peek in when I have time. It's been a bit hard lately with so many at work taking vacation. I'm supposed to be part time but putting in over time.
I Love catching up looking and reading but often I don't have time to post

reproducing it , 'nuf said.
pretty on the buff though almost like a mille fleur pattern.
is your avatar bird a hen or a roo, nice posture.
Sorry, I've had a family emergency and have been away. My avatar is the most frustrating bird I've ever had. She helped me tie for third in SCNA points last year, but she only lays rubber eggs. So does her sister. I need to coop them up together and stuff them full of calcium, but I'm a little tired of hatching this summer.

I used to care about that but the factor of time and taken the pics I just take whatever pics and pray they look good lol ...

I look but unless I can see the whole bi picture, how many birds housed, cleaning schedule, feeds etc. I try not to judge the breeder by the background . If the birds look good and they are in good condition I think it says a lot more about the care than seeing poop in a photo.Photos will pick up on the smallest remnants of urates. besides some situations are transient. I took some photos while I was working on the tractor my birds are housed in and I was using a couple of dog kennels for saw horses and work benches that had been sitting outside and really needed a cleaning but I noted how nice my birds were looking that day and wanted to document the roosters molting process so took some pics amidst the construction materials and dirty kennels and thought " Looks like they live in a junkyard" but the birds were healthy and happy .
