American serama thread!

Wow, I contacted the seller of my eggs that the USPS shook up, and they kindly said they'd send me some new eggs for the cost of shipping, which really is above and beyond! I'm so appreciative because their chickens are really beautiful! I'm so happy! It'll be a couple or so weeks, but again, I'm so happy to have a second chance!

Mother Nature is a good mom. Your hen threw out the bad egg. After awhile she will get rid of all the bad eggs. Put the good ones  back under her and take out what you know is non fertile. Usually if a hen can't cover all at once she will move them around all the time to keep them all warm. The egg you found out is no good. I have also had hens with chicks during the winter. She will freeze to death before she let's her chicks die. Just give her some good cover a well strawed nest and unless you have extremely cold weather soon Nature will take care of itself.
I have found we Humans kill more chickens trying to help than Mother Nature does.
This is one of the most sensible statements I think I have ever read.

I actually like USPS, and think on the whole they do an excellent job. Someone mentioned the decompression from airplane flights might damage eggs as well. It could be, but I don't know, that eggs that are close enough to a person (such as within 300 miles) may not go on a flight. Maybe it's the length of time on a flight? But it sounded reasonable that this could be the cause of bubbles in the eggs, or broken up air sacks?? Not sure Xrays would do it...?

Updated pics of some of my birds:

Slash my exchequer cockerel (15 weeks old)

Sephiroth my little Class A guy, examining my ceiling (and not showing off his manly chest) (15 weeks old)

Marilyn, the silkied surfer boy type (15 weeks old)

Dali, who was having none of the photoshoot. (15 weeks old)

Alice, showing off his pretty coloring (15 weeks old)

9 week old BoogeyMan is next... this guy is a little fruitloop to try to stand on a table. I'm lucky I got pics of him at all :p He really can stand and pose pretty in his cage!

Then there is Fabio. Poor guys comb is really dry right now...I need to oil it and get some humidity into my serama room. But this guy will be the one who teaches me to show Seramas..I toss him on the table and this is what he does! He is 9 months old, so still a youngster

Aschenfire, I really like Marilyn and Fabio is absolutely fab! He might be molting, and you might want to add a little extra vitamins and protein to his diet to see if that helps. Also maybe check him for mites or lice, which can drain them??
They are bug-free...I keep them indoors and have not ever had a mite problem *knock on wood*... but he did just come out of a molt. He is a picky eater, but right now everyone is getting chick starter so hopefully he'll stop looking like he needs a hot oil spa treatment :D

Marilyn really didn't look like much a couple weeks ago... he's really taken off and started to make me pay attention lately

USPS is fine as long as you have NO expectations of them delivering when they say and don't write FRAGILE on your package!
