I just wanted to pop on here real quick.
Sparked my mind when you said Iditarod.Did you know, a Group of Poodles ran the Iditarod 4 times and finished each time?

I think I heard that as an off-handed comment once, but I've never really thought about it. That's pretty cool, although I personally wouldn't want to race a team of poodles.I just wanted to pop on here real quick.

The Sibes were nice dogs, but two were pretty stubborn. We each took a team of two out on scooters, came back, got fresh dogs and went out again. She had one I was fond of. A nice looking male with a smooth gate and easy temper. This was his first run (she is fostering him currently) but I think if she ends up keeping him (heck I might even see about taking him) He'll turn out really well. He kept his line pretty tight while he was running and for never having done it before, he did very well. We'll head out to a new trail this Thursday with teams of two again. Possibly three. We can run very large teams on the scooters and the cart is smaller so it can't take that many dogs. It looks like it will snow all weekend! I might call up my mentor and she what's she's up to. If she gets a lot of snow, I'll see about meeting up with her.Im so glad you work with your dogs so much.
Sibes are pretty and the breed is a fast breed, for a spitz.
Although the Alaskan is based from the Sibe they are indeed bred for more speed.
I had totally forgotten bout some teams doing the "Rod" and the "Quest" back to back.
And in reality the original Sibe was more or less an Alaskan anyhow. A "pariah" sort of dog.
I wonder if there any pure strains of them old Siberian dogs left over there eh????
It'd sure be great to bring in some fresh blood of the originals back here.
I'd add it to the Anydors and Seppallas and still have "original blood.
Anyways... Mush on Blue.

You bring up a lot of good points and thanks for your insight too
I hadn't really thought of it like that but you are right - dogs die every day anyway so why not doing something they love? I mean, obviously like you said, having them be in good health and/or live is the goal but if they do, at least they did it running.
And yes, in India cows are sacred, right? I found this interesting book and ordered it several months ago but never read itbut anyway, it was all about what makes one animal food versus a cute pet, etc. In different parts of the world and how here dogs and cats are "cute" and untouchable and cows and that we cant think of as anything but food yet in other places cows are sacred and dogs are food and what's the difference, etc. Idk, it sounded really interesting but i dont read or do anything anymore thanks to this dang phone![]()
That is sad but life i suppose
Very true, never realized it was wolf/natural physique. Yes, pugs, bulldogs, etc., probably can't run lol but then again, some of them want to. I think it's cruel to breed them with such short noses. In fact, the original used to have longer noses and they have gotten shorter and shorter. There is actuallt a breeder in Germany I think it is trying to bring back the original pug. It's fascinating. A little bit longer nose, longer legs, and I think a less curled tail because supposedly the curled tail can cause back problems. I think it's fantastic. And guess what? They're still just as cute. I mean really, there is no need for the cruel muzzle. They can't even breathe properly in summer or exercise and idk if it's all small dog breeds or just some but they can't birth naturally which is absolutely ridiculous to me. Looking at a picture of a pug skull next to a wolf or dog skull is even more depressing too.
Sorry, I guess I got off on a bit of a rant too LOL
Anyway, yes, lots and lots of conditioning would indeed be needed
I didn't think you said anything wrong! And I think my intentions didn't come out the clearest either, I was simply trying to be nice/for lack of better word make you feel better about saying the wrong species and was saying even though you did that it was okay because i still understand what you meant. I think it came off like i was upset or something but far from it! Tone doesn't tend to translate well over the internet haha

I love Seppallas. I think their my favorite out of all the dog's I've worked with. Sadly, the breed is getting harder and harder to find. I think most people are turning to Alaskans and Sibes and other dogs. Not that those aren't good dogs, but I really do love Seppallas and the history that goes with them. Beautiful animals in my opinion.
Have a good night every one!

I'd given the dogs a month break cause it looked like I was burning them out and we're back to square one :/ maybe they just aren't cut out for the roles they have to play in the team?
