So... I have some thoughts that one of my favorite new pullets may actually be a cockerel. I'd like to vent sex (https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/886680/vent-sexing) him/her but I don't want to potentially injure him/her in the process. Attaching a few photos for your opinions. Definitely the largest one out of the bunch thus far. Comb isn't much bigger than the rest but it does seem redder than the rest and don't know if this one is just maturing faster or if I have a little boy.

Thoughts?

I thought you could only vent sex newborn chicks?

He's an Easter Egger cockerel, probably labelled by the hatchery you purchased him as an Americana/Araucana, (two totally different breeds).

I could be wrong, but I believe goldfinches is right, you can't vent sex chickens unless they are a day old.

Also, that is definitely an Easter Egger, not an Americauna/Araucana, and as far as gender goes, it looks like a rooster, but you can tell by the feathers on his back. All roosters (even the real Araucanas, who have no tails) have sharp feathers on their backs called saddle feathers. Hens, on the other hand, only have round feathers on their backs, so it is easy to tell the difference between the two.
I found this picture online that might help you...

Here's the page the picture was on.

Well, "she" started crowing about 2 days after I posted this. So if you said "rooster" you were correct.

Yes I do believe everyone said Rooster and he is a nice looking one to keep ......

Good luck

Wellllllllll... inside city limits I am restricted as to what I can keep. Since I ignore the restriction on number of birds, probably best to not draw attention to that with a crowing, disallowed rooster.

Oops haha

You can just tell them that, according to chicken math, you don't even have the maximum number of birds, let alone more. :p
