Amers d’Anvers

I got her from Todd. đź’• He gave her to me.

And I just said I was giving up on the cuckoos, too.

D’Anvers September babies. Officially, 0 rats in the coop. At least, there were a few nights I checked and there were none. They’re so spunky, perky, and happy. They love nothing more than to fight with Fireball. Three boys and four girls.

I’ve got a beautiful cuckoo too.
Think she will win my fair?
How do y’all keep the beard so nice?

Wow, she is so pretty, Isabelle! I don't think she could beat your Sebrights. I keep the beards nice by using nipple waterers (mounted on freebie plastic water bottles on the cages.) I ought to put them back up. The beard quality is greatly diminished because of this winter weather and my not wanting the nipples to freeze up. But now my dad put heaters in, so that means less work for me, and maybe nipple waterers. Everything outside is covered in about a foot of snow right now, thanks to recent storms. Your grass looks so green!

Ha ha yeh it’s 34 rn. My comunity was in a state of emergency. Walmart sold out of sheets. We put sheets on our plants to keep them from getting frost or something. I wrapped up my babies because they don’t have winter feathers. What do y’all do?
How do you train a bird to use a nipple water? Will it crack their beaks?

Just press the button so they can see the water. No, they don’t crack their beaks. Otherwise my d’Anvers wouldn’t have the problem of overgrown beaks all the time. For whatever reason, their upper mandible never stops growing.

Basically, in the show world, choosing a certain breed means certain things about you. So I made this meme

Yeh I’ve noticed that he beak grows faster then my layers. I’m cutting it once a week! I’ll look into getting some of those with my Christmas money.

Hay I know you have both full size and bantam birds, have you ever intrigued a bantam retired mean hen into your old but mean full size flock? I want to put my old lady Lace into my layer flock.
(Just trying to free up a coop for another D’Anver or something)

Yes I have. I used to have three and now there are two (the one that died was at the time the oldest bird in our flock. Beloved Luna.) They have the spunk to stand up for themselves. They kind of just fly around and hang out. One is a permanent resident of the rafters and I haven’t seen her in the actual coop part of the shed in months she’s a skinny black one named Lovebird, and flies like a bird. She doesn’t lay any eggs. The other one is Sally. She is a poor quality quail hen who became a beloved pet, though she’s now too skittish to qualify as such.
The real pet is the cuckoo cock, Stripes. He simply doesn’t run away or mind getting pet, which happens every day. He spends a lot of time moving from one roosting place to the next. Stripes is definitely my favorite bird.
Can I see the hen in question? (off topic but I want to.)
