Amers d’Anvers

Even with my oldest growouts which are probably like 7 weeks old I haven’t a clue. Even with my oldest bantam Buckeye growouts which are almost five months old I still can’t make a pick. D’Anvers take less long because with an extreme type like they have it’s easy to find standouts… but I honestly have no idea.
Colorwise… I have the same struggle as you. No idea if it’s a blue or a black.
Haha, I figured they were yours, but just checking 😁

Okay, that makes me feel a bit better anyway haha. I think I will know what doesn’t look right…but not sure I have an eye for what looks show quality either 😆 I’ll probably get crowd sourced opinions later when they’re older 😆

The dad of all these babies was a gorgeous black rooster, so I expected black but the gray colors thru me off! Does the gray mean they are silver based? Out of curiosity?
No, black feathers on chicks tend to be dull and greyish.

Ok that’s good to know! I’m comparing them to my black OEs that I hatched recently and they’re super black with yellow fluffy down. So I expected that more than the dull color and gray down! Good to know!

Well, I guess not all chicks then. But it is the case for my quail d’Anvers, though they aren’t all black.

I was hoping for black just because I also have self blues. I’m anticipating that they will be less high quality so they will be a project to move to quality self blues if my blacks are good. Time will tell 😆

In case you were wondering about my Buckeyes. I really need to take more pics with my phone. This cockerel is the only one I have pictures of.
