An Amish man stole my poop bucket! rant!

I lived in a small south GA town for over 30 years. It was standard practice to put what you didn't want by the curb. If it stayed til trash day, the trash guys took it. If you happened by and wanted it, you took it. I have put broken lawn mowers, unwanted furniture, kid's toys, all sorts of stuff out there, and almost all of it was picked up by someone. I would put it out the day after trash pickup so people would have a chance to get what they want. Saved a lot of hauling to Goodwill.

He didn't steal it, in his mind, he accepted your offer, and waved to thank you.

I am sorry but if it was at the trash--he probably thought it was trash and that was a great find... He may not have understood your comments... I would have NEVER thought it was to be returned either...JMHO

Menonites (sp?) drive cars. Black cars...NON flashy.
They are similar to the Amish...but do use some modern conveniences.

Yeah, but he didn't take my garbage cans and they were by the side of the road. Aren't they then fair game also?

Oh Geeze!! That's too much!

He was probably mennonite. They dress very much like the amish, but they have more technology, including drivers licenses

I'm sure he just thought you were throwing it away. Figured he got the deal of the day... Fertilizer and a nice bucket!

He probably didn't need any garbage cans at the moment

Nope...a garbage can, by its definition, is an item that holds trash temporarily and then returns to its owner after being emptied. Its for holding garbage and that is pretty obvious. I think even the Mennonites know that one.

A bucket sitting NEXT to a garbage can? That could be something that wouldn't fit INTO the garbage can....left unwanted beside the can to be taken away with the other garbage!

I stand corrected. I think. Or do we need a poll. Is anything at the curb, that is clearly not a garbage can, well, garbage, therefore fair game for pickings? Or is a garbage can, a can, no matter if it is size challenged?

I'd say if all your garbage cans were made from buckets and clearly marked "Garbage" or even had garbage bags peeking out the tops of them ....you might have a chance. Or even if you were a little person and everyone knew it and expected you to have size appropriate cans.....

If most of your containers are clearly garbage cans that are designed, marketed and sold as garbage cans....and they have a lone bucket sitting beside them, I would say the bucket stands a fair chance of being recycled by someone unless clearly marked as a garbage container only.

I'm so sorry about your poo bucket, but darn if that isn't the funniest thing I've heard in a while. I can imagine you yelling, stop, thief, you stole my poo bucket!
