An Appology

I haven't read your posts that were considered rude but I can attest for you the medication they have you on. I am actually on disability because of migraines. They cause me to have seizures and a lot of times they will mimick (sp) a stroke where my speech is slurred and I cannot walk. I have a migraine almost daily, although (Praise God) not all of them are that severe. If they have you on Topamax, my neurologist call it "Dopamax" I could barely tell you what my name was when I was on that stuff. Let alone to to type a post of any sort. Depakote wasn't much better either. I wish I had words of wisdoms for you but I have none. They still have no clue what are causing mine and I was not in any traumatic event such as your wreck. The only thing I can say is I understand your issues and I know what those meds and migraines can do to you. If you ever need to talk, I am here.

It is topamax that i am on. I was on Depakot and I gained so much weight on it I refused to take it anymore. I am calling my neurologist in the morning. I was in the garden a few minutes ago, and everything was annoying me, I could hardly concentrate enough to properly choose which seedlings to cull, and finally I gave up and came in and sat down and cried.

I have only been on this medicine a short while and I am miserable. I am hot all the time, I feel generally unwell, i'm impatient, fuzzy headed, and I don't want to eat. Turns out a side affect of the medicine includes anorexia. joy.

It feels good to be able to vent about it. I'v been wondering if it was in my head, but the side affects I'm researching says it's pretty normal stuff.

I have to take something because like you, my migraines are so sever there have been times they mimic seizers. The neurologist said they're in that grey area between seizers and migraines.

sounds like you need that.

It is amazing at the number of people that have migraines. My daughter has them. I have silent migraines,at least that is what the doctor said meniers complicated by silent migraines.

Of course, it IS all in your head! (migraines, get it...sorry, couldn't help it)

My mom was on Topamax. She didn't like it. Talk with the neuro. There are many different meds used to prevent migraines. BP meds, anti-seizure meds, anti-deppressants, magnesium, etc. You might have to try many different ones to find one that works with the fewest amount of side effects. It takes 2-4 week to get it in your system to see if effective, sooner than that to see if it has side effects. So be patient. If your neuro refuses to try different stuff, see a different one for 2nd opinion. Even though doctors sometimes cringe when you bring in stuff from the internet, you can research (from reputable sources) different meds that you might like to try.

And you probably should try some OTC magnesium if you haven't.

Good luck.

he is a very good doctor and is very good about switching me if I am unhappy with something. I was on cymbalta that did wonders for me, but i developed restless leg on it that would keep me up all night, and I hate that. I am going to ask him if there is something in that family I can try.

I have had a history of head aches as a child and a young teen but as I got older they went away, but then when I was hit by that truck in college, the head aches started back this time three times worse than when I was 12.

I am surprised at the rate of head aches other have too! It makes me feel better, in a weird way. It isn't as isolating to know it is a more common problem than I thought. Still it makes me wonder, what causes so many migraines?

I know mine was stress as a child then injuries now, but many other people have no clue as to why theirs show up. I wonder if it's in our food? The chemicals and pesticides put in our environment? The radio waves, electromagnetic waves, and radiation from all of our technology?

I really hate to tell you this, you have all that to look forward to (except the eatting part) when you hit menapause(sp). I don't even have to take anything to feel like that ( not taking your condition with a grain of salt, its bad) Really the change of life, as they call it Feels exactly how you just explained it.
I have found vit. D works wonders for most problems. Really they are just now finding out how important is is for us.

Oh yeah when I cry in the coop all my ladys come and try to stand on my feet. I have thirty-one so they push each other off and on and on untill I start to snicker and scare them.

All of the above, plus sun glare, change in atmosheric pressure, hormones, genetics, quirky brains, change in sleep patterns.

My brother gets migraines from chocolate. AND he won't eat peanut butter. Needless to say I got all the Reeses PB cups when we were kids!

If Cymbalta helped, may ask for Celexa/Prozac/Zoloft/Effexor or Wellbutrin. They are all similar and each can have different set of side effects. Just because you could not take 1, you might still try the others.

Plus, they will help when you do hit menopause and are crying in the coop like caspernc.

to the OP I live with a chronic pain problem and some days getting out of bed takes everything I have. I hope your doctors find something that works for you.
