Dont worry saladin, you dont owe anyone anything. If they want the birds you worked hard for, let them put in the effort and acquire them, either from you or someone else. Few would put in the effort you did to acquire the birds you currently have, nor have the patience to work with them as you are, so why would you owe them anything?

cool...

can i buy some eggs...?????¿

j/k...

i agree 100% with the OP... i try to do the same thing... although right now i'm just trying to widen up my flock... so i'll keep some that are typey enough for me to concider... none are being released out of my property... unless my friend wants to help me with space and breeding... living in the city kills me...

I really did just intend this as an explaination.

Since it was derailed by those who wish to criticize my character I'm in hopes it gets turned around or locked. This is ridiculous.

For those of you that disagree with saladin's post, that is fine you are initialed to your opinion but let me add this,
Look at all the people that buy the big name bird from the big name breeders then they are turning around and breeding that stock willy-nilly and selling the offspring as the big name stock and not one of the offspring is half the bird the original breeder sold. Now over time that is going to give the original breeder a bad name and all his/her hard work go's right down the drain.

2x AMEN!

It happens too often! A good breeder will do their research, interview the prospective owner of the breed. Nothing wrong with that! They want to make sure you are sincere because if they are not sincere, turn around and go off to make money, then the original breeder would be very hurt and wont share as readily as others would. And it would cost you much much more in getting a very rare breed or strain.

what is ridiculous is for you to post your own personal opinion and expect all Humans to agree with you, that is not scientific, I can agree 2+2 i=4 but I can disagree with your opinion and we both be still correct...feel free to desagree with my own opinion....

The original given explaination was not give for anyone to agree with or disagree with. It was a statement of fact concerning my birds. I asked for other breeders to post as well. What I did not ask for was your opinion as to my character.

If you are a breeder, then all you had to say was "I disagree, here's the way I operate....." Obviously, you didn't choose that path. Nor did those who misquoted what I stated.

He posted as an explination why he and many other breeders do what they do...which I agree with, by the way.

You and and others turned it into a personal attack on him by calling him selfish and saying "the error of his ways". I don't really think it's your right to deem if how he handles his flock is wrong. What you have said goes beyond stating your opinion on how he does things.

Ok, so I don't know if maybe I am reading all of this wrong, but what's wrong with hatchery stock? Every once and a while I come across someone with a line something along "lemme guess, hatchery, right?" For those starting out and learning about what they want or like hatcheries ares great... Seems almost like getting a dog from the pound before opening a breeding kennel. Ya gotta learn the ropes somewhere.

I agree with the op about only letting some people get the birds for very specific reasons and under certain conditions, that makes perfect sense to me... Ever tried to go to a reputable dog breeder and walk put with a puppy without an interview? A good breeder isn't going to let that happen.

I simply feel there is a slightly less condescending way to make the point, but hey if you put the work in... Say it like you want to.

I still disagree with you and I am entitled to do that am I not? but its ok, I'll leave now since my Own opinion is clearly my own and I wish not to upset you any more..... good night...
