all the babies look black but check their feet. That's the easiest way to distinguish black from chocolate. If they are all black, whichever grow to be males will be carrying the chocolate gene if they're all from that hen. Breed one of them back over her for chocolate babies.I know that this question has probably been answered on her, but there are a few pages to go through. I just got my pretty ducks about three weeks ago. I love them! They are so cute and sweet. My question is will the ducklings stay the colors they are or will they change some. Momma is a chocolate, her name is Cocoa, and daddy is the typical white with black, his name is Spot. The babies look like they are white with black but sometimes I think I see chocolate colors on them. Also about what age will I know what they are? They were hatched at the end of April.

if they're black and have pencilling, it is something you want to breed away from. Pictures would be more helpful.Thank you! We are new to these beautiful ducks and I just wasn't sure. I also have noticed that at least one of the babies have a pattern on their wings. It's a two toned pattern, kind of like a penciling(?) pattern. Should I be concerned since I know that's not really what they are suppose to look like. I'll see if I can get a good picture of it.

Are you sure they hatched in April? If so, they should be mostly feathered out by now and you should easily be able to tell chocolates from the blacksall the babies look black but check their feet. only the males will carry chocolate, females can not carry chocolate and not show it. Come on silkie, you know this!Unless your drake is split to another color all babies will be black but carry chocolate. The chocolate will pop back up again next generation.
