Obligatory pics :D Our ducks have grown SO big!

They're hovering between 9 and 10 weeks old and they've gotten SO big. The brown one is our early bloomer and was quacking quite a few weeks ago, so we are waiting for the others to catch up and reveal their sexes. One of them (Devil Dinosaur) is a good deal bigger than the others so we are hoping that's our guy and the other ones shake out to be girls.

Our ducks seem to like city yard-garden life, and so many of our neighbors have asked about them. :)

Cute ducks!

Hey guys. I'm pretty sure I know most people selling anconas but I figured if ask here just in case. I'm in oklahoma but Passing through Arkansas and Kansas this weekend on the way back from family and will be picking up some ducklings from a member here but I was wondering if there's anyone else near there/ along the way that anyone knows about as well. I've had such bad luck with eggs i would rather just get ducklings so I don't mind driving within 5-6 hours from oklahoma if anyone knows of any that will be available this summer.

So, being a first timer, will they all pop out one colour and go white and black in a while?

Also, a few of mine have pipped, started to zip, but now the pipping holes looked dried up. One is still wriggling inside, the other is giving no signs that all is well.

Sleepy perhaps? Would love to hatch 9/9, was buoyed this morning, but like a nervous expectant father right now...

Wouldn't that be nice if they all turned out black/white? No, they won't be. There are chocolate, silver, blue, lavender and even tri colored Anconas. My first batch was all blues! Now I got black, blues, chocolates and a couple of tris.

As for the eggs, if they're zipped, they are usually out the same day. If they're only piped (meaning the outer shell is cracked), they can take up to 4 days to hatch. Then there is nothing to worry about.

With your zipped one. Did you try to candle it to see about movement? Usually when you shine a bright light in they at least peep at you. If not, either your humidity is too low (should be around 75-80%) or you slowly and VERY carefully can try to see how the chick is doing by taking off the outer shell (not recommended when doing it the first time!).

Just remember, the inner membrane still has viable veins that supply the duckling while it absorbs the yolk sac. If you nick or break them (aka you see blood when you damage the inner membrane), the duckling could die before making it out. Whatever you do, good luck new dad! ;)

For anyone in Central Florida I am running a special as I need to drastically reduce my flock. 10 Ancona ducks near POL for $100. Blacks, blues, lavenders, chocolates. Should have enough to do 3 drakes and the rest hens. Can't do all hens sorry. PM if interested. They will be going to auction this weekend if I can't sell them.
