Hi all!

I let my broody hatch a few chicks, and they are now a little over one month old. One is a Blue Andalusian, the other is Silver Phoenix. I am hoping for two hens...

Opinions on gender?

The photos of the silver phoenix especially are not that clear but based on these pics the silver phoenix looks like a cockerel and the blue a possible pullet. The blue's comb is a little large though and has me worried. Best to take new photos in another week and post again to get more certain responses.

After reading everyone's comments and doing a bit of research, I think it's official that the silver phoenix is a cockerel. I'm not too upset honestly since they are gorgeous birds. However, now I'm seriously hoping for the Andalusian to be a pullet--I can't take on another rooster. Thoughts about the updated pics? The chicks are now 7 weeks old.

I've heard Andalusians can have quite large combs and tail feathers even as pullets--her wattles are not red, and her comb is not as large as the cockerels I've seen at this age. Hopefully she IS a she.

It's starting to look more like a pullet than it did when it was younger. The comb is still pale and hasn't grown much at all, and it has no wattle development. I think you have cause to be optimistic that it is a pullet, but it's not definite just yet. A couple of more weeks should do the trick.

Update!

The chicks are now 11 weeks old. The silver phoenix is, as predicted, a gorgeous cockerel (pictured rolling in the dust here), and I’m still optimistic about the blue Andalusian being a pullet. She (?) has grown quite a bit but her wattles and comb are still very small.

Thoughts?
