I'm sorry. I just found out one of my friends had to get rid of all of his geese or pay $500 a day. But they told him his ducks could stay. Crazy rules! He loved the geese the most and I feel really sorry for him. I wish I had known before because I would have given the geese a home as where I live I can pretty much have whatever I want poultry wise and nobody can do a thing about it. I am lucky about that but I feel sad for the people who love their birds, take great care of them, but are not allowed to have them

thats it exactly. The ACO was over here again just about 45 minutes ago. That stupid neighbor just won't give up!!

My huband told him about the commissioners meeting last night, and that we would follow up on it tomorrow. He also told him that we will make the chickens "disappear" for a couple weeks, then put them on the other side of our yard. We are also installing an electric fence to keep the cats contained to our backyard, as one of the neighbors in the apartments on the other street had her poor cat run right over. The ACO thought that to be a great idea. He said that said neighbor won't hold on the fence for more than a couple of seconds

. Evidently, the jerk is looking over our fence! The nerve of him.!

I'm so mad, I told the hubby I should start throwing his palm frons back over the fence to him when they fall on our side!

good luck! i live right on a highway and it must have been someone passing cuz we have no neighbors, but someone called the city hall or something to ask if we had a permit! for a 10 by 12 coop! it was ridiculas, but in this case we couldn't do anything about it. it cost us a couple hundred dollars, but at least we didn't have to get rid of teh chickens that would be moving in there.

Most of the time, any branches that overhang into your yard and actually yours even if the tree is not - so you are perfectly within your rights to cut off every single branch that hangs into your yard and dispose of them.

thanks chixrus and Southernbelle! The hubby says we should "Temporarily" bring them to my sisiter in laws up in Melbourne for a couple weeks. Didn't like that idea at all, cuz I may not get them back. You know what I mean, once they were gone, it might be too much to get them back here. One of the ACO said to "put them in the house", of course, this was "not for the record". I've got 8 hens and 3 adolescent pullets, not to mention 3 ducks. But remember now guys, the ducks can stay

. Apparently, from what the ACO said to hubby today, that the ducks are within some kind of loop hole, as not to call them farm animals. What ever! I'll let you know what I'm going to do. Believe me, don't want to give them up, so they may just be staying inside in crates for a couple of weeks or so......... I can just see the work now!

Ok I thought I had alot of work cleaning cages for chicks but full grown, oh prayers being sent your way for sanity and a successful triumph of the person who has been so awful towards your critters! Blessings to you!

if i were you, i would go ahead and let your sister in law watch them..it wouldn't be good for you or the hens to have them indoors in crates. they would be way happier being able to live outdoors and go on with their life while you guys fight this out. i kept a sick hen indoors for a few days and that was stinky enough, i cant even imagine how bad it would get with 8.

thanks so much PQ. Motherof5boys1girl, I am thinking of the "SMELL", and after a while, and I mean short while, they smell.

The do poop a lot, like all birds. My sister in laws daughter's hubby, they own her house, he told my hubby that their ordanances in her neighborhood are not allowed to have chickens either. I don't know if anyone would report her or not. Her house has a huge backyard with all kinds of trees and such, it is actually 2 lots, but the back lot has no fence. As is said, it belongs to the previous owner, and they think that only the propertly with the house on it was foreclosed on. This is according to my SIL and my BIL.

You've mentioned that the ordinance states that you are in a residential area not zoned for livestock...most laws/ordinances have a section with definitions. Does your ordinance define livestock? If not, I think you could use that to your advantage.
