Hi everyone. I was having trouble with my silly password, and was not able to get on for a couple days. Anyway..................... you guys are all right. I don't want to confuse the issue, I just want them to understand that these chickens are MY PETS, you and I know, regardless of their eggs. Although, we did mention that they lay wonderful eggs!

The Counsel seemed to like that, I mean, they never said a negative thing against it. I'm hoping to make this next meeting on this coming Tuesday. Hopefully with a small speech, I'll get through it just fine. Keep praying for me though, I still need that!

My good friend that teaches kindergarten whom I volunteer for said that her son who now lives in Maine, told her that everyone up there is getting their chicks, and are fighting to have them in their backyards as well. Made me feel better! Thats why all the hatcheries are out of them guys, EVERYONE wants some!

B - are there ordanances as to how many animals you can have in your county? I'm wondering how come they have an issue with having simple chickens (yes, even if they think they are livestock

vs pets) but they're okay with all the other animals you have?? Is presenting your chickens as "pets" going to come into play if they should ask how many pets you already have (your webpage: 12 hens, 3 rats,3 dogs, 16 cats, a fish tank, 1 opassum,3 ducks,1 parrot,1 pigon,eggs in the incubator,1 bunny,1 mongose,2 lizareds) - WHEW!

OMG! LOL!! I'd be freaking out with all those animals!

don't mention these other pets.. just stick to chickens..

with summer coming and you said you have ducks
maybe the smell of the chickens and ducks has caused some people to question the resale of their property close to you
also what regulations does your town have on how many you can have?
I would venture if you got rid of the ducks it may make it better
but that you have so many chickenw
how are they cooped?
Is the coop an eye sore?
These are just practical questions that nighbors have.
with houses selling slowly maybe they have issues with people having livestock in their neighborhood

hopefully you can spiff the place up and clean any disposal items and then when they come to evaluate your property they will let you have just so many birds

Really if the chickens are pets why does this mean mor to the court than for egg laying purpose?
Also you have quite a managerie
and the odor and the property values are really the problem to the neighborhood.
chickens and ducks can cause quite a smell with the hot summer coming in Florida

Thanks again GBov and Emberfox. We rent this house were in too. Our landlord really doesn't care. When asked about the deposit for the pets, he said, not to worry. Its just so ridiculous that people are so against chickens. I mean, what difference does it make, whether you have a dog, or cat, or chickens? Some people have snakes, which, like I said before, after they tire of them, what do they do, let then go. Duh, now that can wreak havoc on our eco systems. Not chickens. This is what we need to get across to our City Counsel people, right? Sometimes when I think about all this, I have to laugh. I mean, how hard is it to let people own their own backyard chickens without all the fuss? Let me ask you. When was the last time you heard of a chicken mauling a child?

This is one of my fears that my neighbor will turn me in! I am allowed a certain amount of fowl in the city limits. The ordinances just mention they can't be loud and wouldn't ya know I ended up with a rooster! The closest person to me has told me she will turn me in if it is a problem but I think she would speak with me about it first.

I just had a complaint about my ducks (that make no noise) from a ridiculous neighbor. The outcome was awesome because our town just passed an ordinance in Jan. that its OK to have poultry in your backyard. WOOHOO, finally, for a duck owner!! Good luck to your outcome!

Hi all! I've been reading the post since I'm in an urban area with more than the alloted number of chickens. If there where to be a rude neighbor against my girls- I have a plan! Sue the city and claim that your hens are re incarnated relatives...it's a religous issue that has won many times over with "barnyard" animals.
