nope, science has proven that the black skin has a ton more health benifits and large genetic production of a meat type silkie hybrid are already under way. We the consumer just haven't seen it yet.

Black skin fowl may be a fad here, but they have a long tradition in parts of Asia.

As for eggs, A lot of people sell eggs. A variety of colors gives them an edge in the market.

Yes as with all fads someone had to do it first,im not saying those who have allways kept them.
Im talking about all the new people since the down turn of the economy.
Either way its still the new fad to have chickens.
Its like the 70's look when it came back,sure it had been done before but it was a fad to do it agian.

Just my two cents here. We imported some Blue Orps from England a couple of years ago. Not a fad for us...we love our chickens. I'd rather spend my money to import my birds than spend it on ridiculous cell phones, cell phone bills, or other ridiculous "toys" that are no more a necessity than my imported birds.

I would love for whoever said you could import an entire flock for $5000 or less to let me in on that secret...must have been some major changes in the importation process and fees to import a flock for that price.
