Another Dog Not Controled

Its not the dogs fault at all. But, i DO agree that the dog needs to be put to sleep now. The owners are the idiots..not the dog. The owners should have known better...took better safety percautions. They didnt, and now an animal that knew no better will have to be put down. Sad story all around..For both the baby and the dog.

I saw this today on the 6pm news. They said they were trying to find a new home for the dog - unbelievable! They also said the dog has a habit of sneaking items out of the house. Who was watching the baby??? As a parent who has had both children attacked by dogs (rottweiler and mastiff) I would not hesitate to put the dog down. Negligent parents or not, that type of dog is not suitable for a family and I'd be even more afraid of what it will do in the future now that it has tasted blood.

If this had been a pitt bull, which is NOT a hybrid of a WILD dog, there wouldn't even BE a debate...the dog would be euthanized immediately...why debate it now?

It's an animal. It's a dog. It isn't higher than humans on the totem pole of life.

IF it had attacked someone's chickens everyone would be saying SSS....but it attacks a baby and so let's rehome it and not euthanize it? Or better yet, reintroduce it to the wild so it's free to wander into someone's yard or campsite and eat their children??

It should be dead.

Well said. Stupid question though...I've seen SSS on other posts but what does it mean?

Shoot Shovel Shutup lolol

If they are worried about rabies, they can kill the dog and have it tested for rabies. Lots faster than waiting out 10 days.

It is most definitely NOT the dog's fault. It acted out of instinct, whether that instinctive move be based on 'playing', agressiveness, or protectivness. Doesn't matter. Even if it meant to intentionally hurt the baby, it is still the parent's stupidity for allowing any animal in the room. If they are not in the room with the baby, then the door should be shut if there are any animals in the house. There is no excuse for their mistake. However, I would have killed the dog myself, simply because I could never forgive the dog, or myself, for that matter. My child would just be too important to me, for me not to get rid of the dog. If I couldn't stand to kill it, then I would find it a home where it would have plenty of land to roam, and preferably a family with no kids.
Dogs breeds more closely related to wolves and other wild dogs, shouldn't be kept indoors anyways. At least not all the time. They should be outdoors where they can be happy and run around. Being so closely related to wild animals, their natural instincts and habits haven't been as diluted and re-molded as other, more 'out of the norm' dog breeds. So therefore, I wouldn't trust it indoors with a baby or small child. If you're going to have a husky or a malamute, then you should know they are better as outdoor dogs! The more land, the better!

This area of the forum is about preventing predators and pests from attacking or hurting our flocks.

As the topic of thread (a dog killing a baby) has nothing to do with those things, and seems to be getting rather contentious, I'm closing it.

If you must continue the discussion, please do so in PMs. Thanks!
