Another egg swap thread

I don't have an issue with the rules. I have not participated in the swaps previously, but mostly because my birds were not seperated or not laying consistently.

I am all for it.

My question is this, since people are wanting to swap high quaility eggs, like the black coppers, is this a potential show quaility egg swap only? I have some BLRW that I am quite proud of, but they are hatchery stock. Are people in this swap going to want breeds from specific lines only? Or are my beautiful BLRW hatchery stock chickens acceptable?

I have their pictures posted in that thread.

Not just showies, all purebreds. Your birds are just fine for this swap

By all means, join in the fun!

In that case, I am in as soon as my BLRW are laying!

(and after I fill my obligations to my waiting list)

I would like to start with at least 12 eggs for swap. With shipping, you would probably lose a few anyway. I think that most diseases are not transferable through the shell. I'm game on the swap.

I can't participate yet, but even when the Seramas are laying, I don't think I would. While I like the idea of a pure swap, I don't like the restrictions on account age. So, someone who's been here for 95 days, who's currently in 4 other swaps, offering eggs with no pictures, and has no positive feedback in the feedback thread is ok, but a newbie who's been here 60 days, has been in one swap, has pictures of their birds, but has positive feedback is outcast? How is the time limit going to assure a good swap experience?

My $.02. It just looks .. kind of cliquey from here, and is making me uneasy.

Everyone should always use a DC# IMO. Then if something happens to your package, you can at least prove that you're not trying to swindle someone. It should be a requirement, but I guess it would only matter if somebody was actually being a "moderator" to the swap and banning members who don't comply.

And, I take it that this is purebred chickens only? Shame, shame, I like the rules on this one, but will only have quail to trade in the future.

As for account age, I love it. Same basic concept as post limits. First, if you've been here for three months, you're more likely to have read up on how to ship eggs properly, you've become a part of the community, etc. It's obviously no guarantee, it's just that newbies who signed up yesterday could have done so just to rip someone off. It's just a little safer this way.

I agree....

I really think that time on BYC doesn't matter.

Someone may be new to BYC but a veteran to chickens. Wouldn't you all be upset if someone had some beautiful Marans or something but couldn't share because they joined recently.

Plus, how is anyone supposed to learn and make friends? Seems kinda clique-ish.

You could still swap individually with them, or on another swap, or just purchase eggs straight from them. Limiting someone from a swap temporarily for safety purposes doesn't mean that nobody will ever be able to get eggs from them. No swap will ever be perfect, you simply will never be able to satisfy everyone 100%, but that's what's so great about having different ones, you can pick and choose which ones you like or qualify for. If you would rather have more freedom, join the crazy swap, if you'd rather feel more secure, join this one. If you'd rather get gamebirds, join the quail swap.

this is not a rule suggestion, but just a general suggestion. I would like to see pics of the actual eggs your hens are currently laying also, ot the darkest egg that was ever laid in your history of chicken raising, as egg color is a big deal in many breeds, and so is the size and shape of the eggs.

I have had nothing but fun and mostly great outcomes from online buying and swapping, but some people have shown me some skinny ol' pointy at both ends, poopy covered, wrong color eggs that they have gotten from online dealings. If you showed what your eggs look like, along with the birds, man, this thread would be the BOMB!! I have two BBS marans that lay VERY BIG, NICE eggs, but the color is too light for serious marans breeders, but still, someone that just wanted some nice, extra brown XL size egg layers might want their eggs... I know I do, I am trying to hatch some right now. I'd like to have a dozen of them, even though they are not technically even marans.
