That was my thought, a breathe of fresh air in this trigger crazy world.

Trust me when I say, as a person who lives in a city that won the olympics, be very, very, very thankful you didn't.

ETA: and I would have been far more bothered if they had given it to dubya

Well- I'm a geologist. Everyone should see the movie, but that isn't why Gore won. He has been working on climate change for DECADES! Doesn't anyone read/watch any news besides Fox ?

The Nobel Prize isn't about republican/democrat political bickering. This is about the WORLD, and PEACE and HOPE and MOVING FORWARD.

Global warming has been going on for at least the last 10,000 years. It really isn't anything new folks. Not worth an award anyway.

My dissapointment has nothing to do with democrat/republican bickering. It has to do with Standards and Integrity.

I want to see/read what Obama has done (actually accomplished - not what he is "gonna do") to earn that award. Remember - he was nominated 2 weeks into his administration.....

I can think of a few other people who might be better suited to have won this than President Obama.

Can't help but agree with you meri it's about accomplishments not starry eyed dreams. Calls the whole thing into Question . What exactly are they trying to promote? Who's behind it ? you have to be asking this ,and as for global warming I would think a geologist would realise the amount of greenhouse gas emitted by kilaua or any of those other volcanos going off right now.

So if your preferred team doesn't win the Superbowl, do you guys automatically begin to discount how meaningful that prize is as well?

Just out of curiosity...if not President Obama, who? Who would you rather have seen be awarded the prize?

I dunno...I for one am genuinely pleased that the President of my country was awarded such an honor. Makes me proud to be an American.

"Compare this to Greg Mortenson, nominated for the prize by some members of Congress, who the bookies gave 20-to-1 odds of winning. Son of a missionary, a former army Medic and mountaineer, he has made it his mission to build schools for girls in places where opium dealers and tribal warlords kill people for trying. His Central Asia Institute has built more than 130 schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan - a mission which has, along the way, inspired millions of people to view the protection and education of girls as a key to peace and prosperity and progress."

eta - 130 schools is something I can see - I can't see/feel/taste/touch Obama's Vision of Utopia.

You are right it is no more meaningful than the outcome of a sports competition or so it would seem!

I cannot even begin to express my level of DISGUST. Seems everything in the world has become political favors. We the people don't even matter anymore!

I think I should be inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since I really like Rock & Roll and I someday want to learn how to play bass guitar. I would be a breath of fresh air
