I think our Aussie friend Bantymum got a peek at what God gave him and decided it was hairy as all outback, lol!! Pretty "hair-raising" for her I hear!!! The rest is history and the beginning of the Aussie Sasquatch sightings!!!!

DH said if that is the BYC Mascots job, hanging out, everyone snapping pics and drinking...he wouldn't mind that job!

You guys are a hoot, wish we all lived closer, I'd love to be part of the blood bath! I went to the laundry yesterday and never realized that no matter what you do, chicken blood stains shirts! I actually stood in the area were a "farm girl" stood and she smiled and said "meat birds" ...I thought you have got to be kidding, she noticed the blood stain pattern, just like the boys shirt! ha haha ! CSI, watch out, BYCers unite!

I'm not sure why people are questioning my desire to have non fertile eggs. to each her own. i'm sure i'll eat fertile eggs, i'm sure i have eaten fertile eggs. i would prefer not to, plain and simple.

Thank you for posting the video portion...
I am honestly suprised at how much they struggle but more suprised by how long.

Now that I know, we will be using killing cones because I do not want to have to sit there for a couple of minutes holding the bird, nor let if flop around.

Thanks for the knowledge!

Just for the record-caponizing was a lot more common back before franken-chickens(modern-day broilers) were developed. If you remove the testes of a young male chicken between 2-6 weeks old, they will grow and develop into a very tasty bird, the meat will not toughen as it ages. Granted, you have to feed them longer than 8 weeks, I'm not certain how long, but capon is considered a delicacy. I learned how to caponize in college, my prof. was Leonard Mercia (he wrote Raising Poultry the Modern Way). Lots have changed since then... The goal of caponizing is better quality meat, not infertlie eggs. So ends my lesson for today.

I can't speak for anybody else, but the reason I asked is because of the great many misconceptions I've encountered about eggs and chickens.

I have a neighbor who thought chicks would just develop on their own, without incubating or having a hen brood them. She was afraid to eat farm eggs because she thought a freshly collected egg, laid that day, might just have a partly developed chick in it.

Others think of eating fertile eggs as killing baby chicks. Even though unless incubated those chicks will never be, and the egg will just rot if not eaten.

If you can't tell the difference between a fertile egg and a non-fertile egg when you eat it, I don't understand what the issue actually is. Most preferences have some reason for being, whether it's based on reality or not, a reason, nonetheless. But of course, like anybody, you have the right to choose what you eat, and needn't explain it to me, if you don't want to. I was just curious, that's all.
