Answer to the Delaware Dilemma

If I can thaw out enough tomorrow, I will take some pics of my 7 week old delawares. However, at this point I am thinking they are way to young to tell any thing. Am I correct on this ? ? ? With delawares do you just feed and ignore them until they are 4 - 5 months old before making any evaluations or are there some things I should be checking for now ? ?

Yes, do not cull too soon .... well, unless you have a comb sprig or something like that.

The green sheen means your black is very dark and is not necessarily a bad thing - - right ? ?

Delaware tails are suppose to be barred black and white, NO green sheen!

And I agree with Kathy, smut can disappear, do NOT cull for it when they are so young.

I don't think anyone meant to confuse anyone. And if I missed the post about the barring being of first importance, I am sorry. I would have addressed that. I read it as a general info question.
Body type is always of first importance.

math ace, I'd love, love, love for you to get involved deeply and seriously with the Delawares! We need to interest young folks, not just us old fuddyduddys (gee, how to you spell that? LOL). It's a very challenging breed and I backed off of it because I just don't have the money, the space or the inclination to do it the way it needs to be done to really contribute to upping the numbers of really good Dels. The smut is something that takes awhile to go away, so it's quite a few months before you know if it will truly clear out.

Hey beth. somehow lost you PM ,Must have accidently deleted a while ago.. stopped by to say sending out your logo this fri or sat..Its not finished in this pic , husband broke USB somehow when downloading itunes, so couldnt send you off any new pics with finished ribbon and lettering. Kind of wanted you to see finished befor I mail it out in case you saw any needed changes or framing color, suppose that doesnt matter for printers, they can shop it.. The grey background around bird has been lightened up to off white fading back to darker grey and pretty happy with it all..
