Ants

We have had chickens for several years now. And we have recently started having problems with ants getting into our corn we give our chickens. Like they are actually in the container we keep the feed in. What can we do to get rid of the ants without harming the feed and the chickens and without wasting of all feed?? Please help!!! Thanks!!

I use 5 gallon buckets with tight snap down lids for my feed.
I sore the buckets on a tight building separate from my chickens. One fifty pound bag fills 2 buckets.
No bugs, no critters get in altho a couple of my buckets show evidence of squirells trying to chew there way in.
Feed the corn as it is, ants will not hurt your birds.

Ants can be a real problem around here. We have fire ants. I put out a biologically safe bait for them regularly. But here's an astonishing discovery I have made lately concerning lavender. I discovered that a drop or two of lavender essential oil in a pint of water and sprayed 2 x a week around my corn bags (we keep them in the kitchen) kept the weevils out and even seems to have kept them from hatching!!! It may work for ants, too. I first discovered that this mixture sprayed around our outside doors kept the bugs, including scorpions, out. This may be the reason that people used to prize lavender so highly.
