Thank you! I haven't seriously thought about going the self-publish route. I queried 30-40 agents, but no one wanted to take it on. (I know, that's not a lot of queries, but then I got side tracked on other things.)

Has any here self-published anything? Or looked into it?

I wouldn't really consider myself an author maybe just an amateur writer...

You are the author of your works.
Besides, every writer has to start somewhere.

I don't do social media either due to privacy and other reasons. Definitely makes it harder for me to get customers (I mainly do custom pet portraits).

I don't know exactly what happened with the book. It seemed that the author gave up on the project.

It's a shame they gave up.

If I made a start on this idea that's been floating around my head I would like too add pictures. It would involve a variety of wild birds and animal's .

Too be honest, it's sort of an actual happening that started me thinking.

When I told people about these incidents many have said that it should be written. Then I thought a children's book maybe the way too go, which I would hope to expand on. If that makes sense

What makes me hesitate about self-publishing is what I read on an agent's blog. If you self-publish, you are now NOT a "new" author. And if your book doesn't sell (and most self pubs don't sell many copies), no agent wants to take you on.

If your book gets an ISBN number, you are no longer an unpublished author. And agents will do a search and find it, so you can't "omit" it from your query letter and not get found out.
